A little late with this one. Better late than never right? I don’t remember reading about this anywhere else.

PRESS RELEASE

Toronto, ON (November 20, 2008) – Viigo Inc. (www.viigo.com), developer of the popular mobile content and services platform for smart phones, and Cellular South (www.cellularsouth.com), a leader in wireless solutions and innovation, announced today that they are offering Cellular South customers a free, co-branded version of the award-winning Viigo application.

Cellular South customers with BlackBerry, HTC Touch and Motorola Q9 smart phones will now have one-click  access to real-time news, weather, sports, travel, stock market results, entertainment, blogs and more from over 5,000 of the best Internet content channels.

The co-branded mobile web platform also includes customized Cellular South content, including news feeds from the Memphis Commercial Appeal, The Clarion-Ledger, Mobile Press Register, Delta Democrat Times, Memphis Business Journal, Meridian Star and the Hattiesburg American.

In addition, customized weather links have been established and preloaded along with sports-related links to blogs and NCAA football standings for the Southeastern Conference and Conference USA.  Customers can easily add or change content channels in any of the categories.

“Cellular South is the first wireless carrier in the nation to make a customized version of this content available to customers,” said Wade Smith, senior manager of Consumer Technology and Product Development for Cellular South.  “We pride ourselves in being a leader in innovation and the partnership with Viigo advances our commitment to offer our customers easy, simple and affordable ways to access relevant content with their mobile devices,” Smith said.

As smart phones have become more widespread, the demands customers place on the powerful devices has greatly increased, Smith said, citing a recent J.D. Power and Associates study of business wireless smart phone users that shows Internet capability was listed as the top reason for choosing a smart phone.  “Where e-mail was once their primary purpose, increasingly customers expect the device to serve as a gateway to compelling content and useful services while on the go,” he added.

While recent trends show that most smart phone users are downloading third-party software, the greatest hurdle to more widespread adoption is software-related issues and problems, according to the 2008 J.D. Power and Associates survey of 1,388 business wireless customers.  “Viigo has solved that problem with development of a platform that is revolutionizing the speed and simplicity with which smart phone owners can access content anytime and any place,” Smith said.

“Viigo’s collaboration with Cellular South is a further illustration of the accelerating momentum and support we are gaining from wireless carriers,” said Mark Ruddock, CEO, Viigo. “At Viigo, not only are we focused on delivering the world’s best smart phone experience, we’re also committed to maximizing the value our partners derive from the platform – from new and attractive revenue streams to heightened customer engagement.”

Smith said Cellular South customers with BlackBerry devices, HTC Windows Mobile devices and Motorola Q9 smart phones can download the software application via e-mail, text message or their wireless device.  Instructions are available at www.viigo.com/cellularsouth or via the free download button at www.cellularsouth.com/DiscoverCenter.
