T-Mobile (UK) users demand service innovation

Just got a press release tip about how T-Mobile UK voicemail users are petitioning for T-Mobile UK to reduce their divert charges.
A service called HulloMail is also mentioned in the press release. HulloMail is a visual voicemail service similar to YouMail, with some differences.
Some highlights from the press release:
- T-Mobile is the only major UK network not to include diverts to geographic numbers in their inclusive minutes. The operator’s customers are charged five pence per minute more to divert their voicemail to external third party voicemail services than they are to use T-Mobile’s traditional voice prompt system.
- HulloMail is email based so you get the choice to reply to your messages with either a voice call, email or text message.
- No matter how you choose to listen to your voicemail, by dialing in, online, in Outlook or Thunderbird or even on your iPhone, it will always stay sync’d. So, if you listen to it on your phone, when you see it online it will be marked as read… if you delete it in outlook, you won’t have to listen to it again next time you dial in.
HulloMail sounds cool. I might have to check it out

Press Release
T-Mobile voicemail users have started petitioning for the mobile operator to reduce its divert charges.
T-Mobile is the only major UK network not to include diverts to geographic numbers in their inclusive minutes. The operator’s customers are charged five pence per minute more to divert their voicemail to external third party voicemail services than they are to use T-Mobile’s traditional voice prompt system.
HulloMail fan Jon Bradford has started a petition along with frequent updates against the pricing on his dedicated website SayNoToMobileDivertCharges.co.uk. Jon said: “HulloMail provides a real improvement to the standard T-Mobile service and T-Mobile should be seen as promoting such innovative services. The reality is quite the opposite with an unfair divert charging model that discriminates against these third party services. What really annoys me is how can a full voicemail service cost 12 pence per minute, while a diversion charge is 17 pence per minute?”
“Despite the higher charge for T-Mobile customers, I know many who have continued to sign up in large numbers to HulloMail to benefit from rich email and contacts integration and visual access on the new Android G1 client.”
Supporters of the campaign can check out Jon’s website and sign the petition at http://www.saynototmobiledivertcharges.co.uk/

You decide when your voicemail expires, not your operator. You can save your messages and listen time and time again. You decide when your voicemail expires, not your operator. Forward message to friends or post them on your blog. In fact you can do what you want with them because they are freed from the operator and yours to use how you like.
