Free app: BBFileScout updated to v0.6.3, improvements with searching and more

BBFileScout has been updated to version 0.6.3 with some fixes and improvements to the search functions, as well as other changes.

Changes since version 0.5.14 (from the changelog):

2009/04/17 – BBFileScout update to 0.6.3 (0.6.2 skipped)

What’s fixed

  • I made a very stupid mistake – I trusted a information that was no reliable – and I did not spend enough time to verify this information. I deeply regret what have happened but I can not make this undone – I hope tpdkdesign.net & everaldo.com can forgive me for this error – again my apologize. As consequence all Icons (incl. the main app icon) had to be replaced (I am not confident, if the current symbols will be the final ones – but at least the I bought them from fasticon.com)

2009/04/16 – BBFileScout update to 0.6.1

What’s new?

  • Search will now display the total number of hits (instead of ‘search complete’)
  • Options [General Settings]:
    • Directory Structure loading Thread ['Slow'|'Normal'|'Fast'] (default: Normal) The ‘Search’- and the ‘Goto Directory’ function requires that the directory structure of your device gets pre-loaded once the application will be started – the two functions can be only used, once the pre-loading have been completed. With this option you can choose with which priority the directory loading should be performed.
Setting this option to ‘slow’ will cause that you can use the Search & Goto Directory function after some delay once BBFileScout is started – selecting ‘fast’ will make these functions quite instantly available but might slow down the general start up process of BBFileScout.

What’s fixed

  • Performance of Search improved when there are more then 25 hit’s
  • Menu is now showing the correct entry ‘Zip <selection>’ when multiple directories are selected
  • No Exception when the ‘one directory up’ [..] is selected and the key short cut [A|S] (create Archive) is pressed

2009/04/11 – BBFileScout update to 0.6

[The change from 0.5.x to 0.6 does not have any specific reason (it's just with the new search function BBFileScout seams to be a complete round package)]

What’s new?

  • Search for any file or directory on your Blackberry® device:

At any time you can press the [SHIFT+S] or [SHIFT+A] short cut which will open the search popup dialog. Now you can enter the file/directory name you are searching for. You can also use the ‘*’ as wildcard char. Here are some examples:

    • Typing ‘red*’ will find all files or directories that start with ‘red’
    • Typing ‘*red*’ will find all files or directories containing the char sequence ‘red’
    • Typing ‘*.png’ will find all files with the extension .png
    • Typing ‘*.’ will find all directories (not supported on all OS)
    • Also working – but not recommended: Type ‘*’ to get a complete list of all of your files

After you have pressed the ‘Search’ button the initial ‘Empty’ List will be filled with search result hit’s (if there are any) – Please note, that the Search result will be sorted alphabetically. You will be informed, that the search is completed by the text ‘Search complete’ beside the ‘Search’-Button itself. Now you can mark any search result hit and either open the Menu or:

    • Press [ENTER] to open the file or directoryPlease note, that when you open a file BBFileScout will jump automatically to the parent directory of this file
    • Press [O|P] to open the parent directory in which the file/directory is located (and the specific file/directory will be selected)
    • Press [U|I] to open the file/directory details dialog in order to get additional information like the full file/directory path

Once you opened a file/directory or the parent directory you can go back to your search result by pressing [SHIFT+S] or [SHIFT+A] again – this will show the Search popup Dialog (in the same state as you have let it) again.

  • File details [added property]:
    • Path in which the file is located
  • Directory details [added property]:
    • Path in which the directory is located
  • Key short cuts [main screen]:
      [SHIFT]+[A|S]:Open the (S)earch popup dialog
  • Key short cuts ['Search Files/Directories' popup]:
[ENTER]:Start the search | Open the current selected file or directory
      [O|P]:Open (P)arent Directory
[U|I]:(I)nformation about selected file or directory [file details]
[ESC]:Cancel – close the popup dialogue
