*UPDATE The BlackBerry Lite version has gone into closed beta like the full SocialScope version. It actually looks like the Lite version and full SocialScope version might be one in the same now.

SocialScope is in private beta. To request an invite, complete the form below and we’ll be in touch as soon as an account is available.

Along with making it closed beta they have also changed around their links and redesigned their site. Maybe for a big release? We’ll see.

Those that were able to download it when they did should consider themselves lucky Free app: SocialScope Lite now available for BlackBerry! . I’ll be keeping an eye on SocialScope in case they decide to open it again. *

For the past few weeks I’ve been part of a closed beta of SocialScope for BlackBerry, a social network application that currently integrates Twitter and Facebook.

While checking my Tweets yesterday I noticed that there has been a lot of talk about a SocialScope Lite application. At first I thought it was either a joke or a prank because @SocialScope had not officially mentioned anything.

After doing some searching I found a review blog post by Paul Boocock with plenty of screenshots and details. Up till now I couldn’t really talk about the new features since I was testing out a newer version, but it looks like the SocialScope Lite application is pretty much the same. At least I didn’t notice any difference so far.

Since SocialScope Lite is out there…I guess I can go into details now Free app: SocialScope Lite now available for BlackBerry! .

Features:

  • Add your Twitter and Facebook accounts for status updates
  • Multiple tabs for each account, saved searches and groups
  • Forward as Retweet, Email or SMS
  • Profile alerts for each type of Tweet
  • View user profiles, followers, friends, recent updates as well as follow/unfollow options
  • View your own profile
  • Visible “new tweet” notifications

SocialScope is my favorite social network application so far, and they have lots of upcoming features I’m sure everyone will be excited about.

Don’t forget to follow me @BlackBerryRocks. Let me know what you think!

I wasn't able to download the lite version. I filled out the form and got an email that it's on backlog. Weird. There was no download link. What did I do wrong?

  • http://blackberryrocks.com Mauricio E.T.

Really backlog? I guess they closed it because they can't handle the amount that signed up. I'll see what I can find out.

Someone just told me there were able to download it. Maybe they're servers are experiencing a hiccup.

  • blakes bb

I've tried a couple of times with no luck.

I tried downloading SocialScope but it told me I' d have to wait 2 weeks to be accepted? Why?

  • blakes bb

    Mauricio,
It's giving me the same response that I got in January when I tried to sign up for the alpha test: “Thanks for your interest in SocialScope and our private alpha program. We can't tell you a lot about what we are doing, but it will change the way you use your phone.

The response we've received has been overwhelming leading to quite a backlog. You may have to wait a few weeks as we continue to expand the private alpha program. So, keep an eye out for an email from us with an activation key and further instructions.”

I've gotta say that US is not endearing itself to me as I feel it is yanking the chain of a whole lot of people. I understand wanting to test a product before you try it, I'm all for it. At the same time I also know when companies are trying to create buzz. If you are going to test new versions or whatever, keep it quiet until it's ready to roll to the mass. Don't play with people.
The unfortunate thing is that this program better rock when it is released or a whole lot of people are going to think, “I waited for this…?” I have been using ubertwitter and have been impressed. Social scope when realized better be light years ahead, which I highly doubt at this point.

-so, gotta key you wanna pass along?-

I honestly wasn't expecting it to close, I thought it was an open update. I'll try and get the scoop from @SocialScope.

Trying out socialscope lite now, I had socialscopr before so I guess I was still registered with them because I used the redownload link and logged in. I had a lot of issues with socialscope before but decided to give it another try, everything is going good so far but what is the difference between the “lite” and “full” versions?

  • http://blackberryrocks.com Mauricio E.T.

I can't find a noticeable difference myself, at least from what I have read. Maybe it has less code written into it and that's why it's “Lite”?

  • http://blackberryrocks.com Mauricio E.T.

Some people seem to be getting lucky. I would say keep trying from time to time. If not, they will email you once a spot opens up.

  • jenathi

Having a lot better luck this time around they must have fixed some of the bugs I was experiencing before, I wish there were a few more options for the facebook side.

  • http://blackberryrocks.com Mauricio E.T.

Send them feedback from the SocialScope menu :D they go through each of the feedback reports so every one counts.

Sorry for the huge review, but I’m really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it’s the right choice for you.
