STITCHER INTRODUCES FREE APP FOR BLACKBERRY SMARTPHONES
San Francisco, Calif., May 13, 2009 – Stitcher today announced the release of its streaming-audio application into BlackBerry’s App World.
The new app is available free of charge for AT&T and T-Mobile’s BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Curve series smartphones from Research in Motion (RIM).
“We are excited to bring our product to BlackBerry users,” said Stitcher CEO and co-founder Noah Shanok. “Stitcher has proven to be a success on the iPhone, and we are thrilled with the opportunity to reach a new and broader audience.”
Stitcher’s long-awaited introduction into BlackBerry App World comes roughly nine months after the company released its iPhone app through Apple’s App Store. The iPhone application experienced rapid growth, and in the last three months alone, Stitcher served listeners over 3 million shows, reaching nearly 100,000 new users. Strong continued growth is expected with the introduction to the BlackBerry market.
Stitcher streams on-demand news, audio shows and podcasts to mobile devices requiring no syncing or wires. The company works with a wide variety of key content and publishing partners to provide diverse, up-to-date content. Stitcher’s wide selection of business and headline news is well-suited for the millions of busy, commuting BlackBerry users.
“Stitcher allows people to make the most of their downtime by connecting listeners to the information they want to hear, when and where they want to hear it,” said Shanok. “The app is a great way to discover new shows and podcasts, so we are delighted to provide BlackBerry users access to this wide range of unique audio content.”
Stitcher plans to eventually support all BlackBerry series. Today it is available on Curve 8300, 8310, 8320 and Bold 9000.
