If you missed out on the BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 download links from last week…you’re in luck! Here are some fresh links for both ZIP and OTA downloads.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

It is very important that you make a backup before attempting to install BBM 5.0!

The 4.5/Curve version also appears to work for the Pearl 8100 and 8800 series, so if you own one of these BlackBerry devices and want to try BBM 5.0 make sure this is the one you download and not any other version. It is also important to remember that you need a minimum OS of 4.5.0.131, but having the latest OS definitely helps. You can find the latest OS for your Blackberry here.

  • I tried it two days ago and it worked. Try again. Having WiFi helps speed up the download in case it dies or something.

    Anyone know if this works well on the 8310 with 4.5os?

    Do i have to delete my current bbm first?

    Finally, this wont effect me chatting to anyone without bbm 5.0 will it?
  • It will work if you have at least OS 4.5.0.131.

    You don't have to delete your current BBM unless something goes wrong during installation.

    You can talk to anyone with BBM 5.0 regardless of their BBM version.

    I find the messenger very good -but not stable. I frequently wonder why my wife hasn't responded and look back only to find all traces of the conversation missing/gone.

    Whenever I attempt to download the BBM 5.0 For the Storm (Only English) It does not let me do a Ota, It never downloads and then pops up Something about a COD file, So I grabbed my friends Storm and it worked instantly for him, The only thing different between ours is our themes (He has the basic one while I have an Android one) so I went back to the basic and the same message pops up. When I Go on This screen on his, Its a while screen but on mine it appears black. Is there something I am doing wrong?

    ok i have the tmobile curve 8900. 4.6 and i dowloaded the bbm 5.0 for 4.5 that youhave here and the icon for bbm is gone cant find it anywhere but its in the application list in advanced options can someone help retrieve the icon or atleast re install my old bbm pleaseeeee thanks

  • I would recommend you try re-downloading it again. I've heard of others having a similar issue and installing it a second time seems to work. Let me know what happens.

    I am new to this site, but I am having the same problem. I installed the leaked 5.0 OS for my tour and now I have no BB messenger at all...it shows it as installed on the application list, but no icon and when we go to the app list, it shows it as essentially disconnected. Does anyone have a solution to this?? thanks

  • What OS are you running?
  • You have to download the Javelin version for OS 4.6.1 devices. The Javelin is the Curve 8900's old codename.

    Has anyone gotten this to work on a bold with OS 5.0.0.190?? It shows installed under applications but it's not showing anywhere and I'm not shown as online

    I have Storm OS 5.0.0.191 Downloaded and installed BBM 5 for OS 5. It shows in my Application that I do have BBM 5 but not icon shows anywhere in my phone where I can access it. I had BBM 5 (for OS 4.7) installed on my Storm OS 4.7 before and it worked fine. Anyone has any idea or experience the same thing?!
  • BBM 5.0 and OS 5.0 don't seem to be playing nice right now. Try completely removing BBM and then re-downloading it. Make sure you backup first.

  • To download it directly to your BlackBerry click on the appropriate OTA link, in your case the 4.6/Bold version if you're running OS 4.6.

  • This is a bug in the current version of BBM 5.0. There is no fix right now.

    This just wont work with OS 5 v .190 so gave up trying but from experience with OS .250 this is a excellent version and cant wait for its offical release and compatabilty with all the new OS 5 :)

  • OS 5.0 and BBM 5.0 don't play nice right now. To get your old version delete BBM completely and then run the App Loader in Desktop Manager.

  • None of these links are really meant for the 8520. I would recommend reverting to old version until a version for the 8520 is leaked or official.

  • You have to delete BBM completely and run the App Loader in Desktop Manager. Make sure you make a backup first.

    The App Loader is on your desktop software aka Desktop Manager. If you don't have it go to blackberrry.com and download the latest version. After you plug in your berry and run the manager you can delete specific applications.

    Download a new Operating System that's compatible with BBMsgr and install it after.

    I've tried something that brought my BBM icon back. (found it by serendipity, so there may be some extra steps I'm adding)

    Go to options > advanced options > applications > BlackBerry Messenger (options) > edit default permissions > Then change the permissions of Connections and Interactions to "allow".

    After that is complete, go to the same location again, and set the permissions of the above back to "custom". The phone will prompt a restart (say yes to that of course), and when that is done, you're BBM will reappear! Hopefully yours will too...

    NB. Contacts will remain there, but conversations will be deleted...

    You can't send photos in a small size as you could in the old version, this sucks, is there any way to use it in the same way as the older version regarding the pictures?

    i have tried to use the download for my blackberry pearl 8130 and it doesnt work. i dont know if my device is OS 4.5.0.131. in fact i dont really have a clue what that means. i just know that i absolutely MUST have this. :)

    Hey I just downloaded the new verison of bbm and I added a contact picture for myself but it won't allow me to see anyone elses picture just the original pic it starts with. I asked some friends and they can see my pic but i can't see there pictures.
