Edocrab, a free barcode scanner for BlackBerry, is now available as a public beta. This application is ad-supported as you can see in the screenshots above, but the ads don’t really interfere with the usage of edocrab.

edocrab (barcode spelled backwards) is a new, FREE app for the BlackBerry® that will let you scan product barcodes with your camera and get instant online price comparisons, user reviews, product images, video clips, and more!

In addition, you can also create lists or view a history of searched items.

For a beta, edocrab seems to work nicely and offers some great features. It took me a few times to get the barcode to scan properly, but I was doing it in an area that wasn’t very well lit. Once I moved the barcode was clear enough for edocrab to scan and quickly get results.

Edocrab works better with the BlackBerry Curve 8900, Storm and Tour because of their auto-focus capabilities, but you can still use it with devices that don’t have auto-focus by using the manual search options.

For more info visit edocrab.com. You can also visit the site from your BlackBerry for a direct OTA download.

Let me know how this works for you in the comments!

have the curve 8330. loaded fine but wouldn't work. got an error message that said my phone does not have the correct hardware and that i should just use the manual entry. so i did and everything i put in the app came with the same message... "darn, we can't find the product you are looking for". great idea, just wished it worked...
