Opera has released Beta 5 of their popular real-web browsing application for mobile phones.

Here are the top new features in Opera Mini 5 beta:

  • Tabbed browsing
Browse several Web sites at the same time. Jump easily from one to another.
  • Speed dial
Your favorite sites are just one click away.
  • Touch & Keypad
The interface optimizes the display for both touchscreen and keypad phones.
  • Password manager
Log on to your e-mail, social network and other sites with just one click.

If you watch the video above you can see the new version in action.

With RIM recently acquiring Torch Mobile, I wonder how the upcoming BlackBerry Browser will affect the popularity of 3rd party browsers like Opera Mini, Skyfire and BOLT.

To download Opera Mini 5 Beta go to m.opera.com/next from your BlackBerry Browser or check out opera.com/next from your desktop for more info.

If you find additional features (or bugs) be sure to mention them in the comments!

  • This is officially my favorite browser for the storm. Very fast, great interface, tabbed browsing, ajax support, inline editing, and a virtual keyboard too that-- slight lag aside-- is a great replacement to the standard keyboard: it pops up exactly when it's supposed to, allows for inline edits, appeals to the "touch only!" keyboard crowd.

I'm absolutely blown away at the support for the storm. Storm users who want an iphone-like browser? This is the closest yet. It is MILES ahead of the competition.

So Far, Opera 5 is great. The improvements make it faster and more user friendly. I am loving it.

It seems to have taken over as my default browser... all link sent via email etc, all are forced to now open with Opera Mini 5. For example, I get notification of an update to Beejive IM through a tweet in Social Scope, I click the link and it always opens with Opera - I can't seem to change that. Which sucks because:
    - The OTA install of applications doesn't work.

    Likewise,
Youtube playback doesn't seem to work on my Tour (or at least, doesn't open up the media player to stream)
