I’m being told that the Facebook and IM clients for BlackBerry have been updated to support OS 5.0!

The IM clients were updated to version 2.5.27 from 2.1.48 and the Facebook app was updated to version 1.6.0.22 from 1.6.0.21. Up till now none of these apps were working with OS 5.0. I checked to see if these updates were available to everyone and so far it looks like only the IM client update is. The Facebook update seems to only be available to those running OS 5.0 on their BlackBerry.

All these apps are available for download at mobile.blackberry.com, or if you’d prefer more direct links you can get the Facebook app at blackberry.com/facebook or click here for the IM clients from your BlackBerry Browser.

Let me know in the comments if you can update your Facebook or IM clients and whether you notice any changes besides OS 5.0 compatibility (features, bug fixes, etc). If you’d like to try OS 5.0 check the BlackBerry OS page to see if it’s available for your device.

well, im still running 4.6.1.250 here's what i posted on other site:
well, i’ve tried os5 190 for my Javelin. it’s pretty wesome until i found out some minus in it:
1. that my facebook didnt work :( (. looks like it must have FB V1.7 for this OS which is not available just yet.

2. BBM ver.5 is not compatible with OS5.

3. Quicklaunch – i cant access my media shortcut on quicklaunch. that so lame.

4. Empower sms viewer by ajani – this happens to be my fave app. but it doesnt work well with OS5. well, it does have threaded sms, but not as good as Ajani’s.

hm, well, i think that’s about all.

so, i’ve downgraded it to OS4.6.1.250 :( (

but i gotta tell ya this OS5 is freakinng awesome. here’s why:
1. welcome screen -all new feature, such as when i reboot, the screen is no longer the sand clock but short of downloading screen u see on pc with black background and with blackberry signature on top of it, pretty cool!

2. message alerts – instead of setting it from profile, it allows u to set up the ring tone from messages > message alerts and u can do all the set up from thereall different!

3. slide effect – this is what i mostly like! when i open my pic from media, it slides! sooo cool!

4. downloaded screen – after i download a theme, it provides pop-up question with a screen shot “would u like to apply this?” sooo coool!

5. additional ringtones – since my carrier is vodafone, it has vodafone ringtones folder!

6. YIM – this is also rocks! new look with the setting menu and so

7. i love my trackball more when i used this OS! lol coz it really has no lag. really fast! i love it!

8. SMS feature – oh this one awesome too! it’s like bbm’ing lol i mean it’s like chat room when i do sms. so cool.

anywya, ive downloaded the IM clients. YIM is indeed new version. but when i hit the download link for FB, it still the old version 1.6.0.21.

hm, curious how u all guys' bb able to run OS 5. it really awesome. but as said above, gives me quite trouble here n there :-). appreciate your feedback!

I think it only works with 5.0.0.190 and higher. I'm running 5.0.0.130...downloaded, rebooted, and no icon even though it is appearing in my application list. Did this 5 times and was unsuccessful all 5 times.
