Two weeks ago RIM announced its intentions of enhancing the BlackBerry platform with the help of OpenGL for 3D gaming. Since then there hasn’t been much news about OpenGL for BlackBerry but RESETgame has released a new 3D skiing game with 24 trails called Backcountry Ski, which uses OpenGL.

Featuring  3 mountain ranges, 3 training trails, 21 long trails and full 3D, Backcountry Ski is one of the first BlackBerry games to offer OpenGL. While it may not look the best in terms of graphics, it’s still a great way to see how BlackBerry gaming has evolved and will continue to evolve as RIM opens up the platform for further integration and development.

The Backcountry Ski description says it’s compatible with any BlackBerry device running OS 5.0 and higher with OpenGL ES support. It’s available for $4.99 in the store with a free trial available.
