ScanLife announced via their Facebook page that they’ve updated their BlackBerry application to support the scanning of 1D UPC and EAN barcodes! Up till now ScanLife could only scan 2D codes like QR, Datamatrix and EZcode, but now BlackBerry devices with auto-focus can scan pretty much any product barcode and get info for that product (like price comparisons) while on the go.

The downside of this update is that only newer BlackBerry devices (like the Curve 8900, Storm, Tour and Bold 9700) have auto-focus so older devices without it will only be able to scan 2D barcodes. Right now it looks like the updated version (3.1.1) is only available in the BlackBerry App World and not from their download site.
