It’s time for another round of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) spam messages. This time an unknown user started sending the following message (which everyone else then forwarded) claiming to be from RIM:
Hello, greetings from RIM (Research In Motion) proprietors of BlackBerry. This message is to inform all of our users, that our servers have recently been really full, so we are asking for your help to fix this problem. We need our active users to re-send this message to everyone on your contact list inorder to confirm our active users that use BlackBerry Messenger, if you do not send this message to all your BlackBerry Messenger contacts then your account will remain inactive with the consequence of losing all your contacts.
We apologize for the inconvenience but this is the only way possible to resolve this problem. Sincerely Research in Motion.
I’ve gotten numerous complaints about this message through Twitter and BBM so I figured I’d mention it here on BBRocks! in order to hopefully prevent further forwarding of it.
The last BBM spam message to be sent around was about a fake Haiti fund raiser and it looks like spamming is unfortunately becoming a trend. I guess McAfee was onto something when they said to watch out for BBM spam and hoaxes. RIM should find a way to trace these messages and block the source from BBM, I think.
Have you received this message today? If so tell whoever sent it that it’s fake and to stop! ![]()
