RIM Kills Off Windows Mobile Version Of Recently Acquired Viigo Application

By Mauricio

Viigo recently announced that it will no longer support Windows Mobile phones with its application. We knew it was coming and even said it would happen, especially with the recent acquisition of Viigo by RIM. Here’s the post from their blog:

Please note that the “Viigo for Windows Mobile” product is no longer available for download.  Support for this product will be available until July 21, 2010.  For inquiries, please visit the Viigo support center at http://support.viigo.com.

This will probably give RIM an edge since Viigo is a popular RSS feed reader application and will now only be available for BlackBerry smartphones. What I’m more interested in is what RIM plans on doing with Viigo in terms of integration with BlackBerry devices and what new features we can expect. We’ve already seen that there will be a new app for integrating RSS and social networking feeds in BlackBerry 6 so I wonder if Viigo has a part in that development.
