Over the last few days there have been unconfirmed rumors floating around that RIM acquired software developer DataViz. For those of you that aren’t familiar with DataViz, they’re the developers of the Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe PDF apps available on BlackBerry smartphones. Here’s the statement from RIM:
“RIM has acquired some of the assets of DataViz and hired the majority of its employees to focus on supporting the BlackBerry platform,” the company said in a statement given to Digital Daily. “Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the transaction was not material to RIM in the context of RIM’s financial results.”
This statement follows DataViz’s announcement that they’ve canceled the development of Docs To Go for WebOS. There’s a good chance DataViz might scrap the development of software for all other platforms since the majority of DataViz employees are now focused on supporting the BlackBerry platform.
I think this is a great purchase by RIM. What about you?
