Leaked BES 5.0 SP3 Docs Mention OS 6.1, BlackBerry Protect, Wireless Security Updates, Amazon MP3 Player & More

How’s that for a leak! Al Sacco over at CIO got his hands on some leaked documents for BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) 5.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3) and while it doesn’t sound like anything interesting at first, these docs actually mention some upcoming software updates, releases and terminations. Here’s a summary:

• BlackBerry MDS is now end-of-life
• BES no longer supports Microsoft SQL 2000
• A bunch of enhancements to media file downloads, BlackBerry Administration Service, messaging, and software updates through BES
• Enhancements to online help for BlackBerry Administration Service and Web Desktop Manager
• New IT policy rules – OS 6.1, Amazon MP3 and BlackBerry Shield (aka Protect) mentioned here (all coming soon?)
• Support for additional messaging servers, Microsoft Office 2010 attachments
• …and more!
