Back at BlackBerry World this year we got a sneak peek at how Foursquare was integrating BlackBerry Messenger into their app using the BBM Social Platform. Today the Foursquare team released alpha version 3.0 of their BlackBerry app complete with BBM integration, a few new features and probably some bug fixes. By connecting Foursquare to BBM you can invite friends to download or join you in the app, chat with app users, share files and post updates or achievements to your BBM profile. Besides for the BBM integration version 3.0 also includes a new “Explore” tab with popular areas around you broken up into the following categories: specials, food, drinks, coffee, shops, arts and outdoors. The “Me” tab also includes an updated leaderboard and stats section.
I’m sure I can find a few other changes but I bet you’d all like to get your hands on the new alpha yourself so if you’re ok with using an app that might have issues (so far I haven’t found anything serious), head on over to foursquare.com/blackberry/alpha from your BlackBerry browser to download it. Keep in mind since this is an alpha release you should back up your data before installing it. Also, to integrate Foursquare with BBM you must have at least BBM v6.0.0.111 which is available in the BlackBerry Beta Zone.
Feel free to mention any other changes you may find in the comments!
