Trevor Nunes (aka froggyface) yesterday announced the release of his latest emulator port for the BlackBerry PlayBook, the SEGA Genesis/Megadrive emulator known as DGEN! Trevor is the same developer that brought us the NES port for the PlayBook. A few days ago I mentioned the SNES port for the PlayBook so now we have a total of three retro-gaming ports! From Trevor’s blog:
This port was trickier than other ports because a few files are generated for example the 68k core and it required some third party library for certain features called OpenIL/DevIL which I’ve put on my github http://github.com/trevornunes/libDevIL page it appears to be very powerful , overkill for an emulator!
Overall the emulator runs great, no glitches so far using the CZ80 and Musashi 68k CPU modules. The Star 68k core requires NASM and the MZ80 was more fiddling, the Musashi core is more accurate apparently.
You can use the instructions I included in the SNES port as a guide to get the DGEN emulator on your BlackBerry PlayBook. For more info check out its page on GitHub or download the port from MediaFire. Don’t forget to use Google to find some “cool roms”
. Let us know how it works for you in the comments or in the forums!
