The latest update for the BlackBerry Foursquare app (version 3.9.1) gives users a useful inbox integration feature. This lets Foursquare addicts get their notifications and alerts on their BlackBerry’s inbox. Of course, like with most social notifications there are some notifications that you will not want to be bothered about – for example, getting a notification in your inbox every time one of your friends checks in on Foursquare can get annoying pretty quickly.
However, you will definitely want to get a notification when you have a new friend request, or when someone comments on any of your entries. Fortunately, Foursquare includes various options that let you customize which alerts you see and which ones you do not want to get notified about.
In this short article we will take a look at some of the basic steps to manage and initially set up Foursquare notifications on your BlackBerry.
Managing Foursquare Notifications on The BlackBerry
You can access the options directly from the home screen. Simply press the menu key and then choose Options. From there, choose Notification settings. In this menu, you will have access to all the notifications available on your BlackBerry. Right at the top, you can choose to mute everything, which can help you if Foursquare is starting to get on your nerves.
From there, simply scroll down. You will see a list of the different kinds of alerts, each with two corresponding check boxes. The one on the left is for push alerts and the right one is for emails. By filling one of the boxes, you can choose whether that item will send you a push alert – a simple pop-up message that will display on your BlackBerry’s screen – or an email message in your inbox. If you click both (for important notifications,) that kind of notification will do both. Leaving both boxes unchecked means that you will not get any kind of alert for that Foursquare notification.
As you can see, the system is quite intuitive and easy to go back and change in case you aren’t happy with the result. Once you have set it up exactly as you want, simply press the Back button. Your settings should be saved and you should start receiving Foursquare notifications in your BlackBerry’s inbox.
Can You Still Get Pop-up Notifications on Foursquare For BlackBerry?
Some BlackBerry users were happy with older versions that only displayed pop-up notifications. Unfortunately, the updated app no longer displays these kinds of pop-ups. They have been replaced with the message list and inbox integration. Hopefully, a future update will return this feature for those BlackBerry users that miss it.
