Remember all that smack talk from analysts and Blackberry critics that predicted it wouldn’t be until late February or even March, 2013 until BB10 launched. Yeah, well they were full of it. Blackberry 10 actually has a launch date, and you might find yourself a little surprised at how soon it is.
Yesterday, RIM announced that they will be holding a Blackberry 10 launch event on January 30th. Around that time, RIM will also introduce the first two smartphones that will be available on the new platform. This is tremendous news indeed!
Of course, those BB10 devices RIM is going to introduce won’t actually be available until February or March. Keep in mind, however, the analysts we talked about earlier were projecting that the new BB10 devices wouldn’t even be unveiled until later in the spring.
The Blackberry 10 launch event will be held worldwide, in multiple countries, and it will signify the official release of the new platform. The actual devices won’t release until later, but it shouldn’t be long after the launch event that the platform is available for those with a Playbook.
RIM has not identified the exact date that the BB10 OS update will be available for Playbook owners. So, those of us with Playbooks may have to wait a little longer for that too.
Sure, there may be a little longer to wait, but we’re over the biggest hurdle so far.
RIM CEO, Thorsten Heins on BB10
RIM’s CEO, Thorsten Heins, took the opportunity to reiterate his praise of the upcoming OS:
“In building BlackBerry 10, we set out to create a truly unique mobile computing experience that constantly adapts to your needs. Our team has been working tirelessly to bring our customers innovative features combined with a best in class browser, a rich application ecosystem, and cutting-edge multimedia capabilities. All of this will be integrated into a user experience – the BlackBerry Flow – that is unlike any smartphone on the market today,” said Thorsten Heins, President and CEO of Research In Motion. “Thanks to our strong partnerships with global carriers and a growing ecosystem of developers, we believe our customers will have the best experience possible with BlackBerry 10. We are looking forward to getting BlackBerry 10 in the hands of our customers around the world.”
Heins Isn’t Tthe Only One That Has Hope forF RIM
After finally demoing BB10 to the public and showing off some of it’s more prominent features, quite a few of us have had a renewed faith in RIM. The Blackberry 10 OS is like a very long, and much needed, love letter to Blackberry loyalists.
As you can see from the increasing number of posts on Blackberry Rocks about new apps and games, Blackberry App World is starting to fill up too. Even though, RIM has been saying for a while now that there are plenty more apps than anyone gives credit for, we still say it’s about damn time.
It actually looks as if the Blackberry brand and RIM are going to make a Herculean comeback.
Analysts Are Still a Bunch of Debbie Downers
Even with the recent news about the forthcoming BB10 launch event, analysts are still taking the time to bash RIM and its future. In fact, up until the actual release of the new platform all we will hear about is how RIM will surely fail.
They’re a bunch of Debbie Downers, the whole lot of them.
We believe in RIM and the future of Blackberry here at Blackberry Rocks, and we’re confident that BB10 will take the company and brand right back into the spotlight. #BB10Believe
