It’s always good for a brand to get a few celebrities on board. For example, Blackberry recently named Alicia Keys the Creative Director of the company. Her job is obviously to deliver content that gains Blackberry brand awareness, which if done right, translates to a higher market share.
The Blackberry Z10 recently launched in the US, and despite what naysayers may be quoting it seems as though the device is selling quite well. We’ll know more about the sales figures, soon enough. I’m sure the folks over at Blackberry can’t wait to share them.
During the Blackberry 10 launch event in Los Angeles, a few A-list celebrities showed up to demo the new platform. The Blackberry CMO, Frank Boulben, best known for his “greatest comeback in history” comment, was at the event, showing off the platform to interested parties.
Among those celebrities who showed up are Christina Ricci, Rachel Bilson, Cloe Moretz, Josh Duhamel and more. According to various sources, there was actually quite a good turnout at the event.
The fact that there was such a good turnout is not all that surprising considering the appeal of the new platform. For a while, it seemed like the Blackberry brand was really in a slump, at least it has been over here in the States. Many remained loyal to the brand, simply because of what it has always offered in terms of features and functionality. Just the appeal in using a messaging platform like BBM is what entices folks to jump on the Blackberry wagon. Unfortunately, at least not until Blackberry 10, the company failed to do anything fresh and innovative. This inspired them to reinvent themselves and their brand. Personally, even though Apple sees significant demand, I think this is what they are starting to experience. Customers are turning away from the iPhone platform to explore other avenues.
Getting back to the Celebs, you can see from the images that they were in full force at the LA event. This will surely bring Blackberry back into the spotlight. Of course, I’m not saying people are going to go out and buy a ton of units just because celebrities were seen using them, or will they?
