Happy First Birthday BlackBerry Rocks! Get Ready For Some Awesome Giveaway Contests!

bbrocks first bday Happy First Birthday BlackBerry Rocks! Get Ready For Some Awesome Giveaway Contests!

Exactly one year ago this very minute BlackBerryRocks.com went live and since then has grown in so many ways, all thanks to you, the readers!

It’s been a long and fun ride, at times getting a bit rough but all in all very much worth my time, work and effort. I’m not sure if many of you remember but BlackBerryRocks.com was originally MetroBerry.com for a short while before I made the name change. At that time everything on the site was basic with no tutorials, no dedicated pages like what it has now, no stores, no structure, almost no readers.

Believe it or not I was once an amateur theme creator and the original purpose of MetroBerry.com was to showcase the themes I would have created. Once I got into blogging about everything BlackBerry…it was all downhill (in a good way) from there.

After two months as MetroBerry.com I felt a name change was necessary, and so BlackBerryRocks.com was created. I completely re-designed the site and created the logo from scratch. I had no idea BBRocks! would become the site it is today, having amassed a very sizable following and becoming acquainted with a bunch of awesome people in the process.

The site name and logo were both inspired by two of the things I enjoy most: my BlackBerry and Rock music. How did I come up with them? It’s actually a funny, quick story. I was burning out trying to think of a new site name and a logo that would work with it. I had some rock music on in the background while I was brainstorming, and randomly grabbed my BlackBerry while forming the “Rock Devil Horns,” the hand signal commonly seen at rock concerts. Everything clicked at once and it was the perfect, fun way to show the awesomeness that is BlackBerry.

And so here we are an entire year later. I have some plans for BBRocks! that I hope to see come to fruition soon. Just a preview…site and logo redesign, regular reviews with video, regular giveaways and a few other things I won’t mention just yet ;-) .

Speaking of giveaways, I know it’s BBRocks!’s first birthday but as it’s already been given the gift of awesome readers, I’ve decided to give back to the readers with a bunch of contests where you could win BlackBerry applications, themes, games and accessories!

Keep an eye on BBRocks! throughout the day for the contest posts. You won’t be disappointed :-D .

New At BBRocks! – Latest BlackBerry Operating Systems (Mobile Version)

latest blackberry os mobile bbrocks New At BBRocks! Latest BlackBerry Operating Systems (Mobile Version)

A few weeks back I posted about the new BlackBerry OS page here at BBRocks! but at the time it wasn’t formatted for viewing through the mobile version.

I have created a basic mobile version of the BlackBerry OS page without links or dates which can be used as a reference for what the latest OS (both official and leaked) for your specific BlackBerry device is. You can see an example in the screenshot above.

I have also added a new bit.ly link to the Bit.ly Links For BBRocks! page for the mobile version -> bit.ly/bbOSm

The bit.ly link for the main BlackBerry OS page is -> bit.ly/bbOS

Head on over to the Latest BlackBerry Operating Systems (Mobile Version) page from your BlackBerry and let me know what you think!

New At BBRocks! – Bit.ly Links For All The Good Stuff!

* UPDATE I’ve created the dedicated page. It can be viewed at blackberryrocks.com/bitly-links *

I’ve been using bit.ly for quite some time, for everything I do on the web. Bit.ly is, in my opinion, the best URL shortening site. Not to mention that there is a free application for BlackBerry called bit.lify, which I’m hoping will be updated with more features in the future.

Today I decided to go crazy with bit.ly and bit.lified all the good stuff here on BlackBerry Rocks! You will now be able to save shorter links instead of the long ones, and they are very easy to remember.

Here are some examples:

All you have to do is replace the series number with your series number. I’ve put together a list of all the available bit.ly links for my site after the jump.

I will also be making a page dedicated to listing all my bit.lified links soon. Let me know what you think!

  • Live Notifications: Any website announcements (or any important news items) will be shown here and in real-time.

This toolbar is still in testing so I’d appreciate any feedback you can provide about it. Feel free to share your experiences and opinions about this toolbar in the comments.

BlackBerry Rocks! Was Down – Now Back Up With Important Update

Posted by Mauricio on Jul 8, 2009 at 10:53 PM | Comments

As some of you may have noticed BlackBerry Rocks! has been experiencing some technical difficulties today.

Why you ask? Because of all the awesome BlackBerry Rockers out there who like my site! And I mean that in a very good way :-D .

I have done some temporary upgrades so the site can handle the load, but I will have to upgrade to a bigger server soon. Real soon.

I’m  looking into options and a few of you have already recommended some, so you can expect something to happen in the near future. For the move the site may have to go down again but it will be as painless as possible.

Along with the move I am going to be making a few changes and additions to the site, as well as a few very exciting giveaways! Just as a “thank you” for being loyal to BBRocks! That won’t be the end of it either.

If you’re a developer or company who wants to participate in this giveaway with your products, send an email to info@blackberryrocks.com and I’ll be glad to discuss it with you.

I also highly recommend you follow me on Twitter since that is where I post all my site updates, info, posts, everything. It’s also the best way to contact me should something go wrong with the site, but hopefully after the next upgrade that won’t be the case.

My Twitter: @BlackBerryRocks

I’ll be posting another update once things have been sorted out. Thanks for your support!
