I’m sure many of you with BlackBerry smartphones running the new BlackBerry 6 OS like the updated software, games, and other additions, but you might not like the ringtones. Maybe you liked the ringtones in OS 5.0 and want them back. Thanks to an addition made by RIM on the mobile BlackBerry website, the ringtones from OS 5.0 are now available as a free download for devices running OS 6!

Electric Pocket let me know they’ve released a new BlackBerry application called Ringtone Remix. This app allows users to create ringtones from the music already on their BlackBerry and has a zoomable waveform showing the music you’ve chosen, so you can easily pick the exact piece of the track you want. Features include:

• Choose any song from your music collection to use as a ringtone
• Zoom in and choose your favorite part of the song to use as the tone
• Make and use tones directly from your BlackBerry
• Pick MP3 or M4A (non-DRM) tracks for your tones
• Preview tones you’re making – even hear how they’ll loop
• Use your tones for ringers, custom contact ringtones and alert tones

Normally $2.99, Ringtone Remix is available in the store for $0.99 for a limited time! This app will work on all BlackBerry devices running OS 5.0 or higher so give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments.

The BlackBerry PlayBook today made its first music video début in “The Time (Dirty Bit)” by the Black Eyed Peas. The PlayBook can be seen a few times during the video but if you don’t feel like watching the entire video you can catch it at 2:13, 2:28, 3:15 and 3:52. Nothing to big in terms of what we see on the PlayBook, just Will.i.am catching the animated characters from the cover of their upcoming album “The Beginning” on video. Still, it’s awesome exposure for RIM and their first ever BlackBerry tablet device. Check out the music video below!

That was fast! The BlackBerry Tablet OS SDK was released a few hours ago but a developer quickly extracted the official ringtones for the BlackBerry PlayBook. You can download the ringtones from one of the share sites below:

• RapidShare
• MegaUpload
• DepositFiles
• HotFile
• zShare
• Uploading

So not only can you make your BlackBerry look like the PlayBook with these themes, now you can make it sound like one with its ringtones! Kudos to the developer that extracted the ringtones and made them available for download. Let me know what you think about them in the comments!

If you often visit the BlackBerryRocks.com Store you will have noticed something new. Products available in our store now include barcodes on their details page, more specifically QR codes. I’ve mentioned QR codes a few times before when posting about barcode scanner apps so most you probably know what it is but if you don’t, a QR code is a matrix or 2D barcode which you can scan with your BlackBerry and other mobile devices.

With various QR generation services available, QR codes can lead a scanner to a website, text, phone number or SMS message. For the BBRocks! Store, if you’re browsing on your desktop and see a product you like, all you have to do is scan the product’s barcode with a third-party app or the BlackBerry Messenger barcode scanner and you’ll be taken directly to the mobile page. If the barcode is for an app, game or theme, you’ll be able to scan and download it with just a few clicks.

Head on over to store.blackberryrocks.com from your desktop, browse and test out the barcodes with your BlackBerry. You can also download the free BBRocks! Superstore app at bbrocks.com/superstore so you’ll have immediate access to the store wherever you go.

Zedge has for the longest been one of my favorite “go to” websites for free ringtones and while I may have suggested through our Twitter or Facebook profile, I hadn’t posted about it here.

You can find websites by browsing through search engines but you might have a specific ringtone in mind that you want to download right away. More than half the time I was able to find what I was looking for on Zedge and in more than one variation. Not only does Zedge offer free ringtones, they also offer free wallpapers, videos and text messages. They do have games and themes but there aren’t as many of these for BlackBerry smartphones.

The Zedge website can be accessed from a desktop computer by going to zedge.net or from a mobile device by going to m.zedge.net. Sometimes it’s easier to browse first on a computer then on a mobile device because you can grab a specific download code from the desktop page for immediate downloads through the mobile page.
