Salomondrin has done it again with another great overview video, this time goingt over the Verizon BlackBerry Storm 2 9550. The Storm 2 in this video is a newer release, which includes the hardware and the software (OS 5.0.0.287).

The Hardware: The phone is great to look at, and specially with RIM fixing the previous battery door problems that older revisions had, the phone is ready for every day use. The screen’s response is perfect at all times (Even though this is OS dependent), and there is no more light leaking around the screen

The Software: The latest update I did to the phone made the phone a solid device. This is exactly what RIM had in mind when they decided to put out the phone. We are back to the screen becoming solid when its off, but now the buttons on the bottom of the phone (send, end, app, return) are able to bring the screen back to live as well. I don’t know how that is possible since those buttons are integrated on the screen, but I’m loving it. Random reboots are a thing of the past. In fact, they got rid of those with builds over .19X. There is no random freezing on the screen anymore either, and every single click works this time. The OS also makes the phone very snappy (responds really fast) whether you are going in or out of a menu, making a call, or even texting, the lag is completely gone here. With this bad boy you can text as fast as you want, and not as fast as the phone allows you to, like with the first version of the Storm.

I definitely agree with Sal, the Storm 2 looks and sounds ready for an official launch. As of right now we’re looking at a launch sometime between October 25th and November 27th if things work out internally and nothing gets pushed back. For more about this device check out the Storm 2 Archives.

As much as we all like hearing about how awesome an unreleased BlackBerry is, it’s good to have an objective point of view (or just different) also. In this video, Phone Arena gives the BlackBerry Storm 2 (9550) some praise but also points out some negative factors.

The technology is improving greatly but at the same time, we just don’t see us enjoying it even if it’s working perfectly. We’ll reserve our final judgement for when the production unit comes out. However, we’re not sure that the Storm 2 is going to be that much better; and again, we don’t know that we like that technology even if working perfectly…that it will be worth it.

Remember that this preview by Phone Arena is based on a pre-production unit, in which case they might have just gotten a bad apple. Check out the video for more details.

Keeping this preview in mind (and other Storm 2 info), what do you think the production unit will be like? Do you agree or disagree with Phone Arena when they say it might not be worth it?

Not even a few minutes after posting the BlackBerry Bold 9700 3G vs WiFi video, @salomondrin has created yet another video, this time a WiFi browsing speed test between the Bold 9700 (Onyx) and the Storm 2 (Odin).

Just another reason why I can’t wait for the 9700 to get released, which should be between November and the end of this year!

Trackpad is “heavenly” compared to Trackball

It’s really fast, running on one of the latest versions of OS 5.0

Browser is especially fast (video coming soon)

BlackBerry Messenger is still version 4.7

Media playback (audio and video)

Ringtones (the usual)

Pictures

Applications

Downloads comes pre-loaded with with apps and games like Tetris and PacMan

Profiles (new layout)

Make-UR-Tones (make your own ringtones?!)

130MB of free app memory

AWESOME. So it looks like the Onyx will definitely be launching soon, hopefully in November, but definitely before the end of the year.
