For those of you wondering how BlackBerry is doing in the handset race against the iPhone, here are some statistics to wrap your head around:
It’s not all about the iPhone, at least within one of the world’s fastest growing mobile consumer markets, Indonesia. Today, InMobi, the largest mobile ad network in Asia, Africa and Indonesia, released data showing that RIM’s Blackberry device may be leading the handset race in Indonesia. From January 2009 to June 2009, mobile ad requests on Blackberry phones increased by 842%, compared to mobile ad requests on Indonesia iPhones, which increased only by 205%*.
You’re probably saying to yourself “Why does it matter how BlackBerry is doing in Indonesia?”. In case you don’t already know, Indonesia’s mobile market is pretty big.
Indonesia is predicted to be the third largest mobile market after China and India by 2010 according to the ROA Group. Already, mobile users in Indonesia far outnumber active Internet users by 5 to 1, and the country boasts a 56.8% mobile penetration rate verses a 10.4% according to Internet World Stats.
As if we needed proof that BlackBerry rocks . For more info about InMobi’s data check out the press release after the jump.
“How to” videos such as “How to Change Your Ringtone” and specific BlackBerry smartphone videos such as “How to take a picture with your BlackBerry Curve 8520”
Videos on development such as “How to Debug your Application on a Live Device” and “Get your Application Preloaded on the BlackBerry Smartphone”.
And, more to come in the future! We will be adding new videos regularly – so make sure you subscribe to the channel so you never miss a new video.
On more than one occasion I’ve searched YouTube for new BlackBerry commercials only to find that BlackBerry didn’t have their own channel. Hopefully they’ll also be including commercials and teaser videos in addition to their video guides.

The guys over at blogberry.de were sent an image of what appears to be the next BlackBerry Pearl…the 9100!
According to blogberry’s informant, the Pearl successor (so far) has two codenames: Striker and Stratus. As you can see from the image above, the 9100 will feature a Trackpad and a new form factor, along with that familiar SureType keypad.
I’m definitely liking the direction RIM is going in with their new BlackBerry devices. Can’t wait to see what other devices they have planned for 2010 .

It’s been a few months since we last heard about the BlackBerry Atlas but it’s back and already had its first photo shoot!
Salomondrin has posted up a bunch of pictures showing the Atlas at a few angles including the front, side and back, as well as side-by-side comparisons with other devices. From the back you can see the “Bold” logo. This begs the question: Will the BlackBerry Atlas be another version of the Bold?
Here are some observations made by Sal:
1) It says Bold on the back
2) Keyboard of a Javelin
3) Its NOT 3G, its just EDGE
4) Has flash in the camera
5) Has a trackpad
Sal says he’ll post more about this device soon, so for now let me know what you think about the Atlas in the comments!

This week just keeps getting better and better! Leaks, rumors, new software and now BGR got tipped off that the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and white Bold 9000 have shown up in AT&T’s systems! Sorry if this is a tease but you know you can’t wait for the new BlackBerry devices either!
I guess white is RIM’s new thing. Which new BlackBerry do you plan on getting?

September 25th came and went, unfortunately with no BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac launch. BGR is back with a (rumored) October 2nd launch date, but I wouldn’t hold my breath since the release of BBDS for Mac keeps getting pushed back (if that’s the case).
While you Mac users wait, be sure to check out the Desktop Software for Mac Archives to read up on everything known about it, including feature summaries, walkthroughs and screenshots.
If you hear or know anything more about BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac feel free to send me a message.

My buddy @ASacco found out through RIM’s online security advisory that there is currently a bug in the BlackBerry Browser that leaves users open to attack in the form of “phishing” when prompted about website certificates.
“This advisory relates to a BlackBerry Browser dialog box that provides information about web site domain names and their associated certificates. The BlackBerry Browser dialog box informs the BlackBerry device user when there is a mismatch between the site domain name and the domain name indicated in the associated certificate, but does not properly illustrate that the mismatch is due to the presence of some hidden characters (for example, null characters) in the site domain name.”
Apparently RIM has already issued OS updates that should fix this problem to various carriers, but the carriers have yet to release them. Here’s a list of the software updates in terms of what you should be running in order to avoid getting exposed to the bug:
BlackBerry Device Software v4.5.0.x to v4.5.0.173 or later
BlackBerry Device Software v4.6.0.x to v4.6.0.303 or later
BlackBerry Device Software v4.6.1.x to v4.6.1.309 or later
BlackBerry Device Software v4.7.0.x to v4.7.0.179 or later
BlackBerry Device Software v4.7.1.x to v4.7.1.57 or later
Where the heck are these updates and why haven’t they been released yet?
Until these updates are made available by your carrier (or another), RIM says you should be wary about clicking unknown links in SMS or Email messages even if they are from a trusted source. In addition (according to RIM), you should immediately close any dialog box or prompt that resembles the one in the image above to avoid getting exposed to phishing.
Have you seen a prompt like this before and think you were exposed to the threat? Let me know in the comments!

@Salomondrin really knows how to tease us BlackBerry addicts!
In the photo above Sal shows us a BlackBerry Bold 9700 (aka Onyx) rocking OS 5.0.0.249, the highest 5.0 version I’ve actually seen to date (the latest leaked is 5.0.0.230).
It’s only a matter of time before this awesome device gets released and we can all enjoy some new BlackBerry goodness. Be sure to read up on the Onyx in the 9700 Archives.

No, that wasn’t a joke. According to @Salomondrin, RIM is working on a new BlackBerry that is codenamed “Mr. T”. Here’s what Sal had to say about it:
Mr. T is a QWERTY Keyboard Slider the size of a Storm with a full touchscreen.
This is not a rumor anymore, RIM is actually working on this phone full force, although its at a very early stage of development.
Another thing I know about it is that the ON/OFF and SEND/CANCEL buttons are on the screen, although anything can change at this point, except the fact, of course, that we will be getting a Slider from RIM.
Also, its not like a Sidekick, the keyboard here will come underneath the bottom of the phone, BUT then again, anything can change.
This begs the question: Will this be the “Storm 3,” a version of the Magnum (which was rumored to be a touchscreen/keyboard device), or an entirely different BlackBerry?
Also, I’m glad it won’t be like a Sidekick and the idea of a BlackBerry slider is interesting, but will it rock? Let me know what you think in the comments!
