New MyBlackBerry Social Network Launching Tomorrow?

myblackberry social network New MyBlackBerry Social Network Launching Tomorrow? myblackberry social network 2 New MyBlackBerry Social Network Launching Tomorrow?

A new social network by RIM called MyBlackBerry will be launching tomorrow, according to TechCrunch.

Here’s what I was able to get from the intro video:

  • Connect to BlackBerry users around the world
  • Rate and review  applications, accessories, and more as well as see the reviews of others
  • Ask and answer questions
  • Community tips and tricks

TC says your MyBlackBerry profile will be personalized according to your BlackBerry model. This way you won’t have to worry about seeing items about another BlackBerry that wouldn’t apply to you, unless of course you wanted to, in which case it seems like that won’t be possible right now.

I think this is a great idea and can’t wait to try it out personally. For more info visit the MyBlackBerry page. Right now you can only view a splash screen and the intro video, but the actual site is supposed to be launching tomorrow.

Thanks @buzzedword!

Free .tel For BlackBerry Application Integrates .tel Into Your Address Book

Last week I posted about an application called Hornet, which is basically a free .tel address book for your BlackBerry. Telnic has released their own BlackBerry application called .tel (shows up as Access .tel) which basically does the same thing, along with some other features available.

  • Look up a .tel
  • Save .tel data to your address book
  • Synchronize your contacts with live .tel details
  • Control who can see your private data
  • Switch between your .tel profiles

Not sure what a .tel is? Check out blackberryrocks.tel to see one in action. There is also some private data which is only available to view if you are my TelFriend. The private information is meant for developers and companies interested in contacting me with my direct email address, along with a few other contact methods.

To become a TelFriend register at telfriends.tel. This is also where you would add your own .tel domain so you can control who sees it. If you are a website owner a .tel is definitely a good thing to have. If you aren’t a website owner, it’s good to have either the .tel app or the Hornet app to search up .tels and import them to your address book.

You can download the .tel app to your BlackBerry by visiting bb.apps.telnic.tel from your BlackBerry Browser. Desktop downloads and more information are located at the .tel for BlackBerry page.

LiveOnTheGo.com has launched a BlackBerry version of their free site that allows you to order and pay for take out food online.

With more than 1,000 restaurant partners in 33 states, you can order from restaurants like Yard House, Baja Fresh, Ten Asian Bistro, Fuddruckers, Schlotzsky’s Deli, Pasta Bravo, Cedar Creek Inn, Ruby’s Diner, First Class Pizza, Subway, Antonello Ristorante, and The Flame Broiler.

Restaurant searches are based on a user’s location and choices range from fast-casual to upscale dining. Users can order from complete menus, pay for their orders with a credit card directly on their BlackBerry and even reorder past orders in just a few clicks. Users have the ability to determine exactly when they want their food and if they want to pick up their order or have it delivered, eliminating the need to wait in long restaurant lines. Many restaurants also offer the option of curbside pickup, allowing customers to relax in their car while the restaurant brings their order out to them. Since no money needs to change hands curbside service is even quicker and more convenient than visiting a drive-thru.

Visit LiveOnTheGo.com from your BlackBerry Browser  and you’ll be redirected to the BlackBerry site where you can start ordering food without having to worry about making a phone call or waiting on line. You can use the same link to order from your desktop computer.

Free version of SugarSync available for BlackBerry!

sugarsync logo Free version of SugarSync available for BlackBerry!
sugarsync sample Free version of SugarSync available for BlackBerry!

The last time I posted about SugarSync they had just started Beta testing for their BlackBerry application. Today I found out that there is a free version of SugarSync available.

Here is some information from the SugarSync FAQ on pricing :

What are the limitations of the Free 2GB plan?

  • You can only backup & sync up to two computers – with a paid plan you can backup & sync an unlimited number of computers.
  • SugarSync will store the current version of each document, plus 2 past versions. If you’re looking to maintain and access more you’ll need to switch to a paid plan.
  • The upload time on the 2 GB free plan isn’t as speedy as with the paid (download speed is the same).
  • You can only backup & sync up to 2 GB of data.

Do I get mobile applications with the Free 2GB plan?

  • Absolutely – we want you to enjoy the best of SugarSync – this includes our unmatched level of customer features you’ll get through your mobile phone.
  • We now have mobile applications for iPhone, BlackBerry & WinMo. All other phones with a mobile web browser can use SugarSync by visiting m.sugarsync.com.

I’m an existing user – can I change to the Free 2GB plan?

  • Yes, but you may need to reduce your existing data to ensure you’re under the 2 GB limit. If you’re on a paid plan, you’ll be able to transfer over once your paid subscription has come to an end.
  • The Free 2GB plan has some feature limitations – see above for more detail.

Very useful if you want to save some space on your media card but still have access to important files.

Sign up for your free 2GB account or check out the full press release after the jump.

Last.fm says goodbye to Blackberry and Windows Mobile devices

Posted by Mauricio on Mar 26, 2009 at 3:29 PM | Comments

cbs logo Last.fm says goodbye to Blackberry and Windows Mobile devices

CBS is just getting rid of all the wrong people. Just a few weeks ago they shut down my favorite radio station (92.3 K-Rock in NYC) and favorite morning radio show (Opie and Anthony). Now they are planning on cutting access to Last.fm by 3rd party apps, like FlipSide for BlackBerry, and charging those who are outside of the US, UK and Germany.

Check out the following article by Ben Woods over at KnowYourMobile.com:

Last.fm has announced that it will be removing support for third-party mobile apps using its online music service in the next week.

Despite the fact that these third-party apps have always been unofficial and therefore simply tolerated by Last.fm this news is sure to hit hard for users of Pocket Scrobbler and Mobbler on Windows Mobile handsets, or Flipside for Blackberry owners.

The company says that the officially licensed iPhone and Android apps will continue to work with no problems.

It seems that maximising revenue is the focus of the now CBS-owned company, as Last.fm also announced that users outside of the UK, US and Germany will no longer be able to access the service for free via its online platform, instead the cost will be €4 per month.

Cutting out an entire BlackBerry AND Windows Mobile nation? Not to mention an awesome radio station and morning radio show.  Someone at CBS needs to get fired. Rant over.
