snow reports mobile Myslopes.com Launches First Mobile Skiing Portal

I’m a little late with this one :-? . Got this in an email from MySlopes.com:

Amsterdam, 13 October 2008 – Today Myslopes.com launches the first European mobile skiing website. M.myslopes.com can be used on any browser enabled mobile phone. Ski resort information is now available while traveling or even during the ski holiday. Visitors can find up-to-date snow reports and extensive information about ski areas and ski resorts in 10 European countries.

Slope conditions, 5-day weather forecasts and winter sport information can also easily be found and shared through text messaging with friends or fellow travelers.

Will there be snow tomorrow?

The mobile portal combines all regular website information on Myslopes.com with the ease of mobile internet. When a PC is not at hand, the visitor just enters m.myslopes.com on his mobile phone to check the snow conditions at his favorite ski holiday destination.
Using a mobile phone makes it possible to connect to myslopes.com while being on holiday. It is now possible to check if there will be snow or sunshine for the rest of the week for example.

The mobile skiing portal will be extended in the coming months. It will offer different functionalities compared to the Myslopes.com website. The mobile portal will for example be more personalized and location based. It will also be possible to check the nearest ski-rental stores or the best après-ski bars.

Input from myslopes.com visitors is very important in the development process. All ideas, tips and requests can be sent to info@myslopes.com.

CyberSynchs Saves Cell Phone Information on a Secure Web site

Posted by Mauricio on Sep 29, 2008 at 9:44 AM | Comments

“All my information was gone,” the Shreveport native said.

He took it back to the store and asked to have his information transferred to a new phone, but they couldn’t do it.

“It was such a headache. I lost my e-mails, photos and 250 contacts.”

The ordeal got Winbush so worked up that he had a dream about a way to put that information onto a Web site remotely, with no wires or cables. That was five months ago.

Now, Winbush’s dream is just weeks from coming true, and he plans to share it with his hometown first.

Winbush, who now lives in New York City, has started a company called CyberSynchs. It offers a service that saves cell phone information like contacts, pictures and e-mails on a secure Web site, so people can access the information if something happens to their cell phone.

CyberSynchs will be available in a BETA version to Shreveport residents beginning Nov. 10. The service, which will be compatible with IPhone, Blackberry and Windows Mobile devices, will be free for the first month and $3.99 a month thereafter.

All people have to do is sign up for the service through www.cybersynchs.com, and a text message will be sent to their phone. When people click on the text message, all their information is sent to the site for secure storage.

The service will be available to the rest of the U.S. mobile market by December for a monthly startup and maintenance fee of $2.99 per month ($38.88).

Sounds like a pretty good service to me. You never know when you’ll need something like this until it happens to you. $2.99 a month for a service like this really isn’t that bad if you carry vital information on your BlackBerry. Of course you might be skeptical about the privacy of your synced information. I guess we’ll see how well this service does.

Yahoo Fantasy Football

yfantasyfb Yahoo Fantasy Football

Along with oneConnect and extending the BluePrint widget platform to allow the creation of standalone mobile apps and site Yahoo made another announcement at CTIA.

It’s the mobile edition of Yahoo Fantasy Football (m.yahoo.com/fantasy). Fantasy sports leagues have a huge following around the world and especially in North America. The basic idea is that you form a league with your friends. Each participant owns one or more teams. The league holds a draft where each owner picks players for his team from the active players of a real world sports league. The game is played using a head to head format where each team plays games with other teams and the winner is determined by the relative real world performances of the two team’s players. An alternate “points” format has the winner determined by a simple accumulation of total points earned over the duration of the season.
