Poll: If Android And iOS Get BlackBerry Messenger, Will You Switch?
You knew this poll was coming
. Now that we know BlackBerry Messenger might be launching on the Android and iOS platforms the question remains: How will it affect RIM’s BlackBerry user base? Sure, the version in the works for Android and iOS will be stripped down, but will that prevent a mass exodus from the BlackBerry platform? Answer the poll above and let’s find out!
Poll: What Did You Do While UberTwitter Was Blocked? If You Used Another Twitter App, Did You Switch Back?

This post is mostly meant to satisfy my curiosity on the issue. I know many of you were upset that UberTwitter got blocked and were happy when they finally came back as UberSocial, but what did you do while it was blocked? Did you decide to try another Twitter app for BlackBerry smartphones like Twitter for BlackBerry, or did you just not use Twitter? Or, if you did try another app, did you immediately switch to UberSocial and delete the other?
As @ericvice put it:
Ahhh the sound of 2.5 million copies of Twitter for Blackberry being simultaneously deleted. The bird can sing!
Kind of funny but believe it or not a lot of people were complaining about Twitter for BlackBerry. I bet Twitter wasn’t expecting such negative feedback. So back to my questions…let me know your answers in the polls below and feel free to leave a comment!
Poll: Survey Says Nearly 40 Percent Of BlackBerry Owners Don’t Know Who RIM Is – Do You?

This came as quite a surprise to me when I read it. According to a survey conducted by rightmobilephone.co.uk, a mobile phone comparison site in the UK, nearly 40% of BlackBerry owners don’t know who RIM is:
RIM’s BlackBerry smartphones might be recognisable, but 37% of those polled by rightmobilephone.co.uk were clueless about the mother company.
Neil McHugh, co-founder of rightmobilephone.co.uk, said: “To be honest, I was very shocked that more than a third of BlackBerry users failed to identify RIM as the manufacturer of their handset.
The About screen of all BlackBerry smartphones has RIM all over it, but I guess many users either don’t make the connection or don’t check that screen. Just in case, here’s RIM’s official company info:
Research In Motion (RIM) is the designer and manufacturer of the award-winning BlackBerry® smartphone, used by millions of people around the world. The company also creates solutions for the worldwide mobile communications market, including the software that allows the BlackBerry smartphone to provide mobile access to email, applications, media and the Internet.
And some quick facts:
- Founded in 1984
- Headquarters in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
- Offices in North America, Asia-Pacific and Europe
- Launched the BlackBerry smartphone in 1999
- Led by Co-CEO Jim Balsillie and President and Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis

Steve Jobs Tries To Recover From iPhone 4 Fail, Says BlackBerry Bold 9700 Has Reception Issues Too…Does It?

In an effort to distract everyone from the huge fail that is their iPhone 4 / iOS 4 antenna, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has tried to point out the faults of other smartphone brands including RIM and the BlackBerry Bold 9700.
“The BlackBerry Bold 9700… let’s see what happens when you hold it in a normal way… 5 bars… and now on holding the left side. The bars go down.”
When I read this I had one of those “oh no he didn’t” moments and decided to test it out myself. I cupped my hands all around my Bold 9700 so all I could see was the screen (had to see the bars) and did notice a slight drop which recovered immediately afterwards, and I was indoors. Of course my Bold 9700 might be slightly different because of software versions and all that, so let’s do a poll. If you own a BlackBerry Bold 9700 or know someone who does, try covering it entirely with your hands (or just the side grip like in the picture above) and vote in the poll below:
Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments even if you don’t have a Bold 9700.

Poll: Do You Think RIM Will Be On Time & Release BlackBerry OS 6 By End Of September?
It’s been a while since we an a poll here on BBRocks.com so I figured we’d run one and have some speculative fun. So far we’ve heard on multiple occasions that RIM’s new operating system BlackBerry 6 will be available “next quarter” which meant Q3 then, and that could be any time in July, August, or September. Most recently RIM announced its Q1 results with co-CEO, Jim Balsillie, saying BlackBerry 6 would “be available before the end of September”.
How many of you think RIM will stick to this approximate launch date? Vote in the poll above and feel free to leave any additional thoughts in the comments!
POLL: BlackBerry Or Spouse – Does Your BlackBerry Put Pressure On Your Relationship? [Random]
When I saw this video up on The Washington Post I had to share it because I can relate in so many ways as the BlackBerry user. Here’s the video’s official description:
The Washington Post’s Michael Rosenwald and his wife, Megan Wollman-Rosenwald, a self-professed “BlackBerry widow,” discuss how the allure of the handheld device can put stress on a relationship. (CNBC)
I admit that I’m constantly checking my BlackBerry and it’s pointed out sometimes, but I don’t think it puts a serious enough pressure on relationships. Unless of course the behavior becomes disruptive as some sort of disorder, which isn’t uncommon in terms of technology dependence.
What do you think? Vote in the poll below and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
Do You Prefer Full Feeds Or Summary Feeds? [Poll]
I’m always trying to think of ways of improving BBRocks! for the readers. One question I always ask myself is whether or not it’s better to have a full feed or a summary feed. The current BBRocks! RSS Feed shows a full feed. I’ve created this poll to find out which one is preferred.
I could probably create two feeds, both with same content but one is full and one is a summary, but it might not be necessary. Let me know what you think by voting in the poll above and sharing your thoughts in the comments.
POLL: Keep Topic Identification In Titles Or Get Rid Of Them?
It’s been a few weeks since I asked if it would be helpful to include topic identification in BBRocks! post titles. Since then it seems to have helped but I’d like to hear what you think about it, and whether I should keep putting topic identification in titles.
Example reminder: [Apps] in “LaterDude Pro For BlackBerry Is Awesome! [Apps]” or [News] in “BlackBerry Is Thee Smartphone To Own [News]“.
So what do you think? Keep them or get rid of them? Vote in the poll above and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
