missing light Free app: MissingLight turns your LED purple for missed calls

*UPDATE* Unfortunately this application is no longer free. Jtsdad let me know that Christopher Wong has put a price tag on this application, which might not be cool to some who didn’t get a chance to download the free version. Post has been updated below with a link.

Christopher Wong has developed a free application called MissingLight.

From the description:

MissingLight is a tiny app that turns on the BlackBerry’s status LED if you miss a call. A BlackBerry uses the status light for many notifications: incoming call, voice mail, SMS, email etc. Unfortunately, the ability to indicate a missed call is curiously missing from many BlackBerry models. This app fills that gap by making the LED shine purple. MissingLight works by watching the phone log application for missed calls (it may ask permission for phone log access when you first install).

Note that Storm users have reported mixed results. Some report that the LED lights purple but does not blink.

Note also that if you like your green coverage indicator on, the missed call light will temporarily turn off that light when it comes on. The green blinker returns eventually, such as when going in and out of coverage. If you like your green blinky, MissingLight may not be for you.

Features:

  • Status LED lights up purple if you miss a call
  • Light turns off once you view the phone log
  • No setup. Just install it and it works.

Price: $2.95 till March 31, normally $3.95

BlackBerry Rocks! is back online!

Posted by Mauricio on Mar 2, 2009 at 3:54 PM | Comments

*UPDATE* My emails seem to be fully operational as of 11:18AM March 3, in case anyone tried to contact me. Delayed but working.

*UPDATE* If you’ve been sending me messages or emails and it got bounced back it’s because my email is not fully setup yet. I’m working to fix this.

Just wanted to let everyone know that BlackBerry Rocks! is back online.

Things might appear a bit weird at first until everything is finished getting tweaked, but for the most part everything should be ok now. Hopefully the changes made will prevent BlackBerry Rocks! from involuntarily going offline in the future.

Time to catch up with some BlackBerry news!

Dylo from Dylo’s BlackBerry Themes has created a slick-looking, free theme for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 called Deluxe Today.

The Deluxe Today theme has  an overall great look and feel to it.

A note on the meters: The blue doted lines across the top are your Battery and Signal meters.  Battery is the left half and Signal is the right half.  Each little section on the meter bar is 10%.

The BlackBerry 9630 is the Niagara, a Verizon CDMA World Edition BlackBerry

blackberryniagra The BlackBerry 9630 is the Niagara, a Verizon CDMA World Edition BlackBerry

More information has been leaked about the upcoming Verizon BlackBerry, the BlackBerry Niagara 9630. The Niagara 9630 will be a Verizon World Edition BlackBerry. One gripe that many people will have is the Niagara’s lack of Wi-Fi. How could a new BlackBerry not have Wi-Fi? That’s a big turn off.

Recap on the details:

  • The OS actually we’re told is 4.7.1 (but possibly, possibly, be OS 5.0 depending on launch date).
  • No Wi-Fi.
  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support along with WCDMA support (bands not specified, but most likely 2100MHz).
  • CDMA 1x/EV-DO Rev. A device.
  • Release date unknown, but we’d say May/June if we had to bet.
  • 3.2 megapixel camera (though we heard a rumor there might be a camera-less version, but that’s unconfirmed).
  • The web browser supports JavaScript 1.6 (not huge news, but at least the browser is slowly improving).

Who’s planning to get this BlackBerry?
