If you have downloaded any of Ketanitem’s free themes, here’s another cool one to add to your collection!

This new and free theme for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 is called Combox 4.

Reminder: These themes were created using the leaked Plazmic CDK 4.7 beta. They may still have bugs so install at your own risk. I’ve downloaded a few themes that were made with the leaked Plazmic and have run into no serious issues. :-D

Free app: LifeInPocket™ Rolls Out Blackberry Support

lifeinpocket Free app: LifeInPocket™ Rolls Out Blackberry Support

It looks like every BlackBerry is supported, except for those on Verizon. Way to win the consumer’s heart, Verizon. Here’s why:

Verizon is the only carrier blocks LifeInPocket (and other 3rd party applications) access to BlackBerry internal GPS**, unless a “business agreement” is established. That means we will have to charge users for our services and split revenue with Verizon just like VZ Navigator ($9.99/month), SocialLife ($1.49/month), Chaperone ($9.99/month), WeatherBug($2.99/month), Wireless Sync Email ($19.99/month) etc. ———— While our preference is to offer our services to end users for free. ———— In order to do so, the alternative way is to use external Bluetooth GPS receivers just like Telenav’s $9.99/month service. More…

Some highlights from the press release:

  • Building on the success in the one billion units per year Java phone market, RoadComm, Inc. today made available its LifeInPocket mobile suite, http://LifeInPocket.com to RIM’s BlackBerry smart phones.
  • Free of charge, LifeInPocket will upgrade Blackberries with a greater array of functionality than the iPhone. Those features include GPS, navigation, location messaging, friends/family locator, and much more.
  • Unlike iPhone’s limited sync capability, LifeInPocket™ enables address book sync/import/export with Yahoo, Gmail, MSN, Hotmail, Outlook Express, Palm Desktop, etc. Users can one-click on those synced contacts to “call”, to “mail” and to “navigate” via their phones.
  • The only mobile application/services platform of its kind, LifeInPocket™ symbolizes the next generation of application and services that offers power of top of the line smart phones to regular cell phones and making smart phones smarter.

ubiquitous bitlify Free app: bit.lify shortens URLs from your BlackBerry Browser for a cleaner look when sending in messages!

SocialScope creators Ubiquitous Systems have created bit.lify, a new and free application that allows you to shorten URLs from your BlackBerry Browser using bit.ly.

This is an extremely useful application for shortening those ridiculously long URLs you need to send in a message. Bit.lify allows your message to look clean without the long URL clutter that can be annoying to some.

BlackBerry Rocks! is back from the dead

Posted by Mauricio on Feb 25, 2009 at 6:36 PM | Comments

*UPDATE* There may be a few things that appear weird or don’t work properly till I completely fix the problem. For example, because of the overflow I have to use a caching thing which is affecting the mobile version of BlackBerry Rocks! If you would like to visit the My Fav Apps OTA page go to blackberryrocks.com/my-fav-apps-ota/ and it will still come up, but not mobilized. Again, sorry for the inconvenience. I am working on improving the site so it will run faster without problems.

I ran into a problem with my host. Apparently someone is doing something very naughty that was causing my site to overflow the server, which is why BlackBerry Rocks! was brought offline.

In order to prevent incidents like this in the future I am taking steps to improve  performance. I will update everyone as things move along.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

rim 299x96 New features in BlackBerry Internet Service 2.6

A few days ago RIM published a Knowledge Base article detailing information about BIS 2.6. After RIM enabled BES 5, I’m sure BIS users were wondering when they would get an upgrade. There isn’t a lot of improvement as far as functionality for the average user goes, but it’s still an improvement. Let me know what you think about the BIS upgrade to 2.6!

Check out the details after the jump.

The creator of the free GPSLogger application, Matthias, has created another free application for BlackBerrys called BBFileScout.

From the description:

[successfully tested with 8310, 8330, 8800, 8820, 9000 & 9500].

BBFileScout allows you to browse the file system of your BB (including hidden files) – create directories, copy, move, rename or delete files. You can open all (by your Blackberry supported) media files. Furthermore BBFileScout allows you to open files (like ini, xml, etc.) as plain text, so you are able to mark, copy & paste text fragments of these files that normally can’t be opened with your Blackberry. This can become very valuable when you receive eMail attachments that are not native supported by your Blackberry. More functionality (like copy & move of directories) is coming soon. With BBFileScout you can delete pre installed wallpapers, videos and ringtones in order to free memory on your device*** – but please note, that once they are deleted the only way to get them back is to hard reset your device!
