MapQuest Launches My Places on the MapQuest 4 Mobile Downloadable Application

Posted by Mauricio on Feb 24, 2009 at 3:14 PM | Comments

*UPDATE* Michael from MapQuest just left a comment updating me with the link for supported handsets. You can visit http://www.mapquest.com/mq4m/phones/ for the full list. Michael says the version for the Curve 8900 is coming real soon too :-D .

Unfortunately this application isn’t available for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 yet. I’m not sure which other BlackBerrys aren’t currently supported since m.mq4m.com/futurelist doesn’t have an actual list. If you try to download it be sure to leave some comments on whether or not you were successful! :-)

Some highlights from the press release:

  • MapQuest announced the addition of My Places to MapQuest 4 Mobile, MapQuest’s free, downloadable application. My Places lets registered MapQuest users save maps and routes to their profile from the MapQuest site and access them via MapQuest.com, (http://www.mapquest.com), or their mobile phone.
  • With My Places, users can set up an account at MapQuest.com and view their saved locations using MapQuest 4 Mobile.
  • To download the free MapQuest 4 Mobile application with the new My Places integration, go to m.mq4m.com on your mobile device.

Free theme: ComBox for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 (3 versions)

combox v1 Free theme: ComBox for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 (3 versions) combox v2 Free theme: ComBox for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 (3 versions) combox v3 Free theme: ComBox for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 (3 versions)

Now here are 3 very cool themes created by Ketanitem. Ketanitem is the creator of the J theme and Reverse L theme I posted about a little over a week ago.

There are three versions (all free) of Ketanitem’s ComBox theme available for the BlackBerry Curve 8900. Going left to right from the screenshots above:

  • Version 1 (initial version) has 9 icons plus the 3 row Calendar
  • Version 2 has 6 standard icons with Calendar and Messages
  • Version 3 has 8 icons with 3 row Calendar

The wallpaper can only be modified in versions 2 and 3. Feedback for these themes are overall very positive over at the CrackBerry forums thread where this was posted.

Reminder: These themes were created using the leaked Plazmic CDK 4.7 beta. They may still have bugs so install at your own risk. I’ve downloaded a few themes that were made with the leaked Plazmic and have run into no serious issues. :-D

T-Mobile (UK) users demand service innovation

Posted by Mauricio on Feb 24, 2009 at 11:14 AM | Comments

Just got a press release tip about how T-Mobile UK voicemail users are petitioning for T-Mobile UK to reduce their divert charges.

A service called HulloMail is also mentioned in the press release. HulloMail is a visual voicemail service similar to YouMail, with some differences.

Some highlights from the press release:

  • T-Mobile is the only major UK network not to include diverts to geographic numbers in their inclusive minutes. The operator’s customers are charged five pence per minute more to divert their voicemail to external third party voicemail services than they are to use T-Mobile’s traditional voice prompt system.
  • HulloMail is email based so you get the choice to reply to your messages with either a voice call, email or text message.
  • No matter how you choose to listen to your voicemail, by dialing in, online, in Outlook or Thunderbird or even on your iPhone, it will always stay sync’d. So, if you listen to it on your phone, when you see it online it will be marked as read… if you delete it in outlook, you won’t have to listen to it again next time you dial in.

HulloMail sounds cool. I might have to check it out ;-) .
