gpslogger Free download: GPSLogger v0.4.2, tested with 8800, Bold 9000, Storm 9500

It seems like many people are giving BlackBerry application development a shot these days, which is great! I came across a thread in the CrackBerry forums where member emacf1 has created a GPS tracking tool, available now for FREE!

From the description:

I would like to use the opportunity to present my first application that I have created for the BB (tested with 8800, 9000 & 9500) – It’s a quite straight forward application, that is recording your movement with your BB-phone over time – this includes Elevation and Speed (and some more data).

My main motivation to write this application was first of all to learn how to program my new Blackberry (via RIM’s Java API) – The main benefit (compared to a JavaME Midlet) is, that you have full access to the hardware (like the Filesystem) without any confirmation from the user. Of course this will restrict the usability of the application to Blackberry devices only – but well – I own now one – so I do not care ;-)
The second reason for creating a own application was that I wanted to have a GPSLogging application without any kind of online access (so without any additional costs).

I was able to download this application on my Curve 8900 but haven’t had a lot of time to figure it out yet. Seems to be a pretty straight forward application though.

Be sure to send emacf1 some feedback to help him with the development of GPSLogger. If you don’t feel like sending out an email, quickly leave a comment here about your experiences and I’ll forward them to him.

My buddy Fabian Heuwieser created a new, free application for BlackBerrys called BerryTorch.

From the description:

The application is quite easy to explain:
It shows a blank, white screen and activates the LED. Through this you can see in the dark.

Features:

  • Activates the LED
  • Shows a white screen

I’ve tested it out on my BlackBerry Curve 8900 and it works great! No problems at all.

BlackBerry 8325 is the Gemini, not the 9300?

Posted by Mauricio on Feb 9, 2009 at 9:21 PM | Comments

8325 text bbn 300x137 BlackBerry 8325 is the Gemini, not the 9300?

Not even a day has gone by since initial Gemini details emerged and there is already more information about it.

Joey over at BlackBerry News says:

The 9300 is not the Gemini. Apparently bloggers-that-be got the the numbering all wrong. There IS a device 9300 out there, and with 3G, but it is not the Gemini. That code name has been reserved for the BlackBerry 8325.

Yes, the 8325, which is NOT a 3G device. I am hearing it will be the first device with OS 5.0 installed, and it will have WiFi, with EDGE. One rumor is speculating it will be T-Mobile’s device, but I find that unlikely with the 8900 Curve2 out just now. Why would T-Mobile drop another Curve on us so soon? Other  specs.. same 2.0 MP camera, and the screen at 320 x 240.

So which is it? It would be great if some slides were conveniently leaked to the public ;-) .

vymailscreens VyMail updated from version 0.8.2.18 to 0.8.3.4

Joe let me know that he has updated his awesome VyMail application from version 0.8.2.18 to 0.8.3.4.

What is VyMail?

VyMail is a Blackberry application that provides a Visual Voicemail interface to the third-party voicemail service YouMail. You will need to sign up there first before this application will be useful.

Changelog:

  • Added: Multi-selection in the voice mail list view
  • Added: Home screen icon changes on new messages
  • Added: Alerts on new messages (manage them under your standard ringer profiles)
  • Added: Headset and bluetooth support
  • Added: Ability to change audio output directly from the message detail screen
  • Added: Player progress bar
  • Added: Key shortcuts to message detail screen:
    • space – play/pause
    • shift+space – restart playback
    • f – flag/unfloag
    • r – mark read
    • delete – delete the messge
    • c – call the number that left the message
  • Changed: The color and padding values of the second line in the list display (hopefully this improves readability with pearls, et al)
  • Fixed: PIN field only allows numeric input now
  • Fixed: Changing connection type did not take affect until device reset
  • Fixed: Ribbon icon only displays if VyMail is currently active, and will now activate the application.

Looks like YouMail has even more catching up to do with their YouMail Voicemail Plus application :-) .
