Sith_Apprentice’s 4.7.3.101 Hybrid OS for the BlackBerry Storm 9530

Posted by Mauricio on Feb 9, 2009 at 1:37 PM | Comments

*UPDATE* Changed download link for newer version. At the rate Sith is pumping out hybrids I probably won’t be able to keep up so keep an eye on the CB thread.

Sith_Apprentice over at the CrackBerry forums has created his very own 4.7.3.101 hybrid OS for the BlackBerry Storm 9530!

Sith let BGR know about the whole process and is now offering his own hybrid OS to the public through a MegaUpload download.

Check out some the buzz in the CB Forums:

  • Bigger font on keyboard from.90
  • Bettter speed overall than .99
  • Faster boot up time
  • Transition effects still there from .99 (and previous builds with the expection of .90)
  • Love the bigger fonts from .99
  • Much better overall speed from
  • Boot time was about the same as .99 for me
  • Accelerometer(sp?) is the best yet
  • Won’t save pictures at 1.0 zoom(I have tried a QuickPull)
  • Slacker seems to run faster
  • Browsing w/ stock browser is faster
  • Install went very smooth
  • Memory at 42.37 MB after 1 Hour and 22 minutes with Slacker running

Don’t forget, this OS was not created by RIM. It was created by Sith_Apprentice, who seems to be very good with OS tweaking ;-) .

It looks like Sith is pumping out new builds here and there so be sure to keep an eye on the CrackBerry Forums thread for updated OS and download information.

REMEMBER: Install at your own risk. Always make backups before making major changes/upgrades/downgrades to your BlackBerry.

BlackBerry Gemini 9300 details emerge

blackberry9300 BlackBerry Gemini 9300 details emerge

New BlackBerry rumors aren’t over yet!

BGR was able to get some information about the upcoming BlackBerry Gemini 9300, which is basically a Curve 8900 with 3G and some other minor differences.

Check out the details:

  • The screen will be larger than the BlackBerry 8900, and that will also include a higher resolution
  • The CPU will also be beefed up. We’re not sure if this means it will include something more powerful than the Bold’s 624MHz processor or not, but we’d like to think so.
  • The device is said to be silver (think BlackBerry 8830)
  • The keyboard is a little more rounded than the BlackBerry 8900
  • The Send/End keys are rounded instead of being flat on the sides
  • Styling is not drastically different — it keeps with the 8900/Storm styling
  • It of course rocks quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA
  • Wi-Fi and GPS was not confirmed, but we’d say there’s about a 99.99% chance
  • Camera specs were not confirmed as well, but you can bet you’re looking at 3.2 megapixels or better

BG also mentioned a possible release date of Q4 2009 or Q1 2010, but this is just speculation. Anyone else hearing anything about the BlackBerry Gemini 9300?

* UPDATE Updated the OTA download link. *

CrackBerry Forums member dmglakewood created a new and FREE lightsaber application for the BlackBerry Storm.

Now BlackBerry Storm owners can fight off the lightsaber swinging iPhone users.

How it works:

Open the app, click the screen to turn the lightsaber on. You can swipe the screen left and right for different colors. When you have a color of your choice just swing the phone left and right. Based on how hard you swing it different sounds will play. Click the screen again to turn it off.

Thanks 0mie! Check out an example video after the jump.
