Free app: BScope Mobile turns your BlackBerry into a virtual escort

behaviorscopeproject Free app: BScope Mobile turns your BlackBerry into a virtual escort

I found out about this application called BScope Mobile through an article at Yale Daily News. BScope Mobile is currently in beta so there may be some bugs. I spoke to the developer of this application, they plan to release an updated and more detailed version sometime in April.

From the description:

What is the BScope Project?

The BScope Project aims to provide services by sensing and interpreting human behavior using a set of heterogeneous wireless sensors.

This portal provides services through the BScope framework by analyzing sensor data to interpret human behaviors. Currently these services are provisioned to the BScope testbeds for elder monitoring as well as a special edition of mobile phone applications. Users can register to use public data sources and demos. No mobile phone required.

Personal Safety Services over Mobile Phones?

Part of the spatio-temporal processing developed by the BScope project is currently used to provide personal safety services on GPS-enabled BlackBerry mobile phones.

Features:

  • Keep track of places you visit
  • Plot your tracks on a map
  • Stick virtual notes to any location, and read other people’s notes
  • Use the Virtual Escort when walking alone
  • Request assistance at any time with the Panic Button

Compatible with BlackBerry 8800 Series, Pearl, Curve, and 8703e. Support for other phones is coming soon.

Interesting concept. If you go to a university in one of America’s most unsafe cities like I do (Newark NJ),  you would probably appreciate something like this. Or maybe you just like to be safe ;-) .
