The official BlackBerry Bold 9000 OS 4.6.0.291 is currently available to T-Mobile UK customers who upgrade through their Desktop Manager, but the update has yet to show up on their download site.
@Bubino75 let me know that the Java files for OS 4.6.0.291 have been leaked for those that can’t wait for the official one to go live.
The upgrade process is different when using Java files, but not at all difficult:
- FIRST MAKE A BACKUP!
- Download the Java files to your PC and extract them to a location of your choice. 7-zip.org has a free and great extraction application if you need one.
- From your PC go to Program Files > Common Files > Research In Motion > Shared > Loader Files
- Find the latest OS for your BlackBerry device and open that folder
- Drag and drop the extracted folder into this folder
- Run the Loader program found in Program Files > Common Files > Research In Motion > AppLoader
- Open options and select the OS that you dropped the Java files into
- Finish the Loader process
Please keep in mind that this is an unofficial method of updating that you should only do if you are comfortable with the process.
DISCLAIMER: Install at your own risk. This is Leaked/Beta software that is not guaranteed to be stable, and therefore will not be supported by RIM or your wireless carrier should you run into some problems. As a precaution, if you decide to upgrade, it is highly recommended that you make a backup before using this software. If you are not comfortable using Leaked/Beta software you should probably wait for the next official release. *
