UPDATE Updated OTA link. Thanks berryhelpful. *

It’s been quite some time since Tweeteev was last mentioned here on BBRocks! but it looks like they’re still in the Twitter app game!

Up till now not too many have been able to use Tweeteev but Diddy let me know that a copy of the Alpha version has been leaked online and is available for download, which can only mean that Tweeteev is still developing their BlackBerry Twitter client and has not just faded away (like some on Twitter are saying).

About Tweeteev:

Tweeteev is a disruptive Blackberry client for Twitter. The interface, features and experience that Tweeteev provides will totally change the way you use Twitter on your mobile phone. Stay tuned, coming soon on a Blackberry near you.

This is not an official version so install at your own risk and only if you are comfortable with using leaked software. Don’t expect this version to be without bugs, especially since it’s an Alpha version.

I was told that this version should be a “one-app-fits-all” but I’m not sure. If you decide to install this (after first making a backup) be sure to leave some feedback and your BlackBerry model in the comments.

Check out Tweeteev.com if you’d like to sign up to be notified when the application is officially released.

Skyfire For BlackBerry Back In Alpha Testing – Now Version 3.5

skyfire logo Skyfire For BlackBerry Back In Alpha Testing Now Version 3.5

After an early Alpha version of Skyfire for BlackBerry was leaked a few weeks back, Skyfire decided to suspend testing. Today BGR let us know that Skyfire has re-opened their Alpha testing and it is now version 3.5. Check out the release notes below…

What got removed in Alpha 3.5 (vs. Alpha 3.1)?

  • Stream Mode: We are actively working on an alternate method to provide streaming for Blackberry that will provide better performance and reduces the number of errors during streaming. This work has not been concluded yet. In the meantime we removed the existing stream mode. Stay tuned!

What’s new in Alpha 3.5

  • Inline Text Entry: You can now edit/enter form elements directly within the page, without being interrupted by a dialog box. Makes it more direct, convenient and retains the context.
  • Click-to Call: The Blackberry client now will utilize tags in websites that trigger a phone call, when clicked (e.g. callto: and tel: links). You have to confirm before the call is initiated.
  • Set as Default Browser: when set, links will open Skyfire
  • Downloading of Files: you can now invoke the download of files to your device.
  • Improved Scrolling: Further tweaking since the last Alpha.
  • Reduced Checkerboard occurrences
  • Alpha limit: We implemented a simple mechanism to limit the number of new users in our system. Once reached you see a message. If you encounter this and are part of this Alpha group then please contact us.

Known bugs in this Alpha

  • Clear cookies: When you clear cookies in advanced settings it will not work. Will be addressed in the next release.
  • Inline Text: We are seeing several issues.
  • Sometimes old text is visible (Issue 331 & 409), when re-entering text box, the cursor is positioned at the beginning of the text field (Issue 333).
  • Download: timeout when downloading large files (Issue 435)”

It’s taking a while for Skyfire to officially release a BlackBerry client, but so far it looks like the wait will be well worth it.

Viigo Alpha for BlackBerry has been updated to version 3.1.324.

The obvious change that I noticed is that there is now a “Deals” service where you can get the latest deals by store or by category. I’m sure there are also plenty of bug fixes in this update too.

Browse by Store so far includes 6th Avenue, Abe’s of Maine, Amazon.com, B&H Photo Video, Best Buy, Buy.com, CompUSA, Dell, Geeks, JR.com, NewEgg, OfficeDepot, Overstock, PC Connection and Walmart.

Browse by Category so far includes Cameras and Camcorders, Computer Accessories, Computer Storage, Computers, Flash Memory, GPS Navigators, Games and Consoles, Home Theatre and Televisions, MP3 Players, Printers, Security and Nanny Cameras and Webcams.

Viigo Alpha is still in its testing stages so you may find a few bugs here and there. Since this isn’t a production release install at your own risk!

You can download Viigo Alpha by going to getviigo.com/alpha from your BlackBerry Browser. Don’t forget to let Viigo know about any bugs or suggestions through the “Feedback” option in the application itself, or by leaving some comments here.

Brightkite announced on their blog that the free BrightBerry application was made open source by Chris Hallgren. BrightBerry is for any BlackBerry with OS 4.5 and higher.

BrightBerry currently lets you:

  • View and navigate your streams (Friends, Nearby, Universe, Mentions, and User)
  • Post a Note to your current location
  • Check in to Placemarks
  • Send and receive Direct Messages
  • View and post comments on a post

Chris Hallgren has made BrightBerry open source in the hopes that other developers will contribute to the project. In addition to GPS and Place Search check-ins, the following features are currently being worked on:

  • Posting photos from camera capture and media viewer
  • Sending and responding to Friend Requests
  • Creation of Placemarks
  • Viewing a Place Stream
  • Improving load times on streams
  • Creating a better GUI based on the iPhone app

BrightBerry is currently in its Alpha stage of development with some bugs that need to be worked out. If you’re a developer who would like to help with BrightBerry you can visit the GitHub project profile for more info.

You can download BrightBerry by visiting bbhn.mobi from your BlackBerry Browser, or with your desktop for more info and a desktop installation link. The desktop installation only works if you visit the site with Internet Explorer.

capture8 40 52 Viigo Alpha for BlackBerry updated to v3.1.289, Beta version coming next week!

Viigo has updated their BlackBerry application from Alpha version 3.1.242 to 3.1.289.

This update includes some memory optimizations, better audio support, weather improvements and better Twitter. I’ve also gotten word that Viigo Alpha will go Beta sometime next week!

Here are the initial features I mentioned when Viigo Alpha first became available:

  • New look and feel, sort of refreshed from previous versions
  • Application icons and text seem more vivid
  • AUDIO & MEDIA SUPPORT! And they already have a library of podcast and media feeds to choose from
  • New choices in the “Options” menu which include Audio & Podcast and Pageonce (registration key required) settings
  • Maximum connection size options for Audio & Media (64 , 128, 256 or 512 kb)

These features are in addition to everything that Viigo had before the Alpha release.

Viigo Alpha is still in its testing stages so you may find a few bugs here and there. Since this isn’t a production release install at your own risk! I’ve had the Alpha since it was made available and haven’t run into any problems yet.

You can download Viigo Alpha by going to getviigo.com/alpha from your BlackBerry Browser. Don’t forget to let Viigo know about any bugs or suggestions through the “Feedback” option in the application itself, or by leaving some comments here.

I just learned that Viigo has an Alpha version 3.1.242 available for BlackBerrys!

There isn’t anything official out yet, but since the link is floating around the Twitterverse I figured I’d post about it with some of my findings.

Here is what I noticed so far in version 3.1.242:

  • New look and feel, sort of refreshed from previous versions
  • Application icons and text seem more vivid
  • AUDIO & MEDIA SUPPORT! And they already have a library of podcast and media feeds to choose from
  • New choices in the “Options” menu which include Audio & Podcast and Pageonce (registration key required) settings
  • Maximum connection size options for Audio & Media (64 , 128, 256 or 512 kb)

Viigo is one of the first applications I always suggest to new BlackBerry owners. It’s a great way to stay up to speed with just about anything.

You can download Viigo Alpha v3.1.242 by going to getviigo.com/alpha from either your PC or BlackBerry Browser.

Since this is an Alpha application don’t expect it to be perfect (even though I haven’t run into any problems). If I missed anything or you want to share what you think of the Alpha version be sure to do so in the comments!
