mac dm 2 A Closer Look At BlackBerry Desktop Software For Mac

Andrey over at Inside BlackBerry posted up a great in-depth walkthrough of BlackBerry Desktop Software (BBDS) for Mac. According to the walkthrough, “Desktop Software” is what it will be known as and not “Desktop Manager”.

Here is what Andrey’s walkthrough covers:

  • The Welcome Sheet
  • Summary Screen and Device Options
  • Synchronizing
  • Updating Device Software
  • Installing and Removing Applications
  • Backup and Restore

According to Andrey the release of BBDS for Mac is “just around the corner”.

There are plenty of screenshots for visual aide so head on over to Inside BlackBerry and check out the detailed walkthrough. Don’t forget to sign up at blackberry.com/mac for more info and to be notified about its release, or just keep an eye on BBRocks! since I’ll be posting about it as soon as it’s available ;-) .

New MyBlackBerry Social Network Launching Tomorrow?

myblackberry social network New MyBlackBerry Social Network Launching Tomorrow? myblackberry social network 2 New MyBlackBerry Social Network Launching Tomorrow?

A new social network by RIM called MyBlackBerry will be launching tomorrow, according to TechCrunch.

Here’s what I was able to get from the intro video:

  • Connect to BlackBerry users around the world
  • Rate and review  applications, accessories, and more as well as see the reviews of others
  • Ask and answer questions
  • Community tips and tricks

TC says your MyBlackBerry profile will be personalized according to your BlackBerry model. This way you won’t have to worry about seeing items about another BlackBerry that wouldn’t apply to you, unless of course you wanted to, in which case it seems like that won’t be possible right now.

I think this is a great idea and can’t wait to try it out personally. For more info visit the MyBlackBerry page. Right now you can only view a splash screen and the intro video, but the actual site is supposed to be launching tomorrow.

Thanks @buzzedword!

Feedback wanted: What do you want covered in a review?

bbr app reviews Feedback wanted: What do you want covered in a review?

I plan on doing BlackBerry application reviews more often and wanted some feedback from everyone about what they would like covered.

Here are some of the things I might cover:

  • Developer, category, uses, size (kb/mb) and price (if there is one)
  • User rating (from the store) and personal rating (1 through 5)
  • Ease of installation, including time it takes to install
  • Screenshots (lots of them)
  • Mini “getting started” guides

If there’s something else you think I should cover leave it in the comments. I already have a few applications lined up for reviews, but if you have any you’d like me to review let me know and I’ll add it to my “queue.”

If you need ideas you can browse the applications in the BlackBerry Rocks! Store.

BerryCoder recently released this application called ShrinkIt. With this application, you can shrink an image after saving it. So if you want to save the original photo but want to downsize it to send to someone else later, now you can.

This application supports all BlackBerry handhelds OS 4.3 and above.

Feature:

  • Downsize your picture in 4 modes of screen resolution (ShrinkIt1:2, 640w, 480w, and 320w).
  • Option to select downsized picture quality.
  • Add-on option to Media/Picture for easy to use.

Cost: $8.99 US

7 day trial available, after the trial ends you can still shrink an image to 320w without having to pay for the application.
