Matthias from emacberry.com let me know that he has updated FileScout, a donationware file manager application for BlackBerry.

Formerly known as BBFileScout, FileScout is an application that allows you to do more with your files than the default BlackBerry file explorer. You can do things like resize and rotate images, see hidden files, create/copy/edit/move files and directories, delete pre-installed content, zip and unzip files and lots more. Version 1.3 brings with it some great features including the ability to email multiple files and whole directories (up to carrier limit). The full changelog viewed here, or see what’s new in version 1.3 after the jump.

Note: If you have BBFileScout installed [before the Application name change Version 1.2.0.0] you have to uninstall it first in order to use FileScout v1.3.0.0.

BlackBerry pictures QL 0982690715 BBFileScout Is Now FileScout Updated To v1.2.0.0

Matthias let me know that he has updated his donationware file manager application to version 1.2.0.0 and that it is now known as FileScout.

What’s new?

  • ‘BBFileScout’ is now called ‘FileScout’
The double ‘BB’ was removed from the application name cause of legal concerns – actually this change requires, that you have to delete your current BBFileScout installation [Options - Advanced Options - Applications] (reboot might be required) before you can install FileScout v1.2.0.0. I am sorry for this inconvenience.
  • New Option: ‘Check for Updates’ – allows you directly from FileScout to check, if a new Version of the application is available.
  • Renamed ‘Stack’ to ‘vClipboard’ in the hope that this is easier to understand for most of the users how copy and move operations can be performed.
  • New “Search for text” function in the integrated text editor (incl. “Find next” function and case sensitive/case insensitive switch)
  • New keyboard shortcut: + (M)odify Image
  • New Thumbnail Option: ‘Do not try to reload broken images’ – when you have specified a ‘Thumbnail-Store Directory’ FileScout can also store the information about broken images – so the next time folders with broken images are opened there will be no warning message for the same files again.
  • If ‘Confirm Delete of files & directories’ is enabled, and you want to delete multiple files you have a new checkbox in the confirm dialogue: ‘Do not ask again for this selection?’ – once this is checked, all files of the selection will be deleted without additional confirmation.

What’s fixed?

  • Loading of folders containing more then 1000 files now much faster (again) – progress bar updating fixed

FileScout will work with any BlackBerry running OS 4.3 and higher except for the Pearl Flip series. To download FileScout OTA click here or visit the emacberry.com page for more info and a desktop download link.

Note: If you already have BBFileScout installed you must uninstall it before downloading the new version of FileScout.

* UPDATE Matthias has updated BBFileScout to version 1.1.0.1

Since I received user feedback that there is additionally the need for a user defined resolution setting in the new “Image Resize” function, I just have integrated this feature into BBFileScout. In the new ‘Image Option’ section you have an additional entry in the ‘target resolution’ called ‘user defined’.

If you downloaded version 1.1 please redownload BBFileScout below. *

New functions include the ability to resize images to a user selected resolution ranging from 1200px, 1024px, 800px, 640px and the device’s resolution. There is also an option to show favorites at startup and URLs in the BBFileScout “About” screen will now bring you to the site.

BBFileScout is offered “free” as Donationware, which means the version available for download is fully functional with no limitations but the developer is asking for donations to help upkeep the development of the application. BBFileScout is available for all BlackBerrys on OS 4.3 and higher.

Free app: BBFileScout updated to v0.6.5, adds thumbnail support for images and more

bbfilescout menu Free app: BBFileScout updated to v0.6.5, adds thumbnail support for images and more

BBFileScout has been updated to version 0.6.5 with support for thumbnail images, new features and a fresh set of application icons.

From the changelog:

2009/04/22 – BBFileScout update to 0.6.5

What’s new?

  • Thumbnail support for images (if enabled in BBFileScout options)
BBFileScout is able to display a small (depending on the selected font site) preview of supported image files.
Please note that this option could eat up a lot of performance of your device, if you open a directory that contain a large number of images that have a file size which is larger the 500KiB. In order to avoid serious performance problems the search result will not display thumbnails for images.
  • BBFileScout will display a 128px preview of image files in the details dialog [Key shortcut: I] The thumbnail creation could take some moments – so please be a bit patient.
  • Select your favorite folder icons
  • When you have chosen ‘Ask each time’ in the ‘When destination exist’ option then it can become quite inconvenient when you will be prompted for plenty of files and you have to select each time the option of your choice. This have been improved: BBFileScout will now remember the first made choice and for the next time the dialog will be displayed the ‘OK’-Button is automatically focused.

2009/04/18 – BBFileScout update to 0.6.4

What’s new?

  • I am sorry that there is again another update within 24h – but the initial new icons, that I have bought where IMHO not optimal for the Blackberry® device – so I have worked the last 24h with high pressure on an update for the icons of BBFileScout and finally after spending the night with “pushing pixel around” I am more or less happy with the result
  • I hope now the contrast for the icons is improved and if there is somebody around who would like to help me with further improvements please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.

Don’t forget, BBFileScout is provided free as dontation-ware. If you’d like to help with a dontation or with the development of this application be sure to contact the developer.

What’s fixed

  • I made a very stupid mistake – I trusted a information that was no reliable – and I did not spend enough time to verify this information. I deeply regret what have happened but I can not make this undone – I hope tpdkdesign.net & everaldo.com can forgive me for this error – again my apologize. As consequence all Icons (incl. the main app icon) had to be replaced (I am not confident, if the current symbols will be the final ones – but at least the I bought them from fasticon.com)
