Yesterday BlackBerry data services were down/lagging (again) across North America and it looks like BlackBerry users in Europe will soon be able to share in the fun! (No, it’s not actually fun.)

The following notice was sent to Dataoutages News by a UK carrier:

“There is a planned outage within the European BlackBerry network scheduled for the 26th September within the time window of 0200 and 0600 BST.  RIM expect the duration of the outage to be no more than 2 hours.

This outage will result in the loss of BlackBerry data services, and end users may be unable to send and receive BlackBerry messages

If you have any queries relating to this fault, please contact the BlackBerry support team by replying to this email or calling on the usual telephone number, quoting Case Reference  5424003.”

The outage in North America lasted longer than two hours so consider yourselves lucky if it’s  “no more than 2 hours”. :-)

If you’re a European BlackBerry user and experience an outage on September 26th feel free to leave your carrier and general location information in the comments.

snow reports mobile Myslopes.com Launches First Mobile Skiing Portal

I’m a little late with this one :-? . Got this in an email from MySlopes.com:

Amsterdam, 13 October 2008 – Today Myslopes.com launches the first European mobile skiing website. M.myslopes.com can be used on any browser enabled mobile phone. Ski resort information is now available while traveling or even during the ski holiday. Visitors can find up-to-date snow reports and extensive information about ski areas and ski resorts in 10 European countries.

Slope conditions, 5-day weather forecasts and winter sport information can also easily be found and shared through text messaging with friends or fellow travelers.

Will there be snow tomorrow?

The mobile portal combines all regular website information on Myslopes.com with the ease of mobile internet. When a PC is not at hand, the visitor just enters m.myslopes.com on his mobile phone to check the snow conditions at his favorite ski holiday destination.
Using a mobile phone makes it possible to connect to myslopes.com while being on holiday. It is now possible to check if there will be snow or sunshine for the rest of the week for example.

The mobile skiing portal will be extended in the coming months. It will offer different functionalities compared to the Myslopes.com website. The mobile portal will for example be more personalized and location based. It will also be possible to check the nearest ski-rental stores or the best après-ski bars.

Input from myslopes.com visitors is very important in the development process. All ideas, tips and requests can be sent to info@myslopes.com.
