* UPDATE Matthias has updated BBFileScout to version 1.1.0.1

Since I received user feedback that there is additionally the need for a user defined resolution setting in the new “Image Resize” function, I just have integrated this feature into BBFileScout. In the new ‘Image Option’ section you have an additional entry in the ‘target resolution’ called ‘user defined’.

If you downloaded version 1.1 please redownload BBFileScout below. *

Matthias let me know that he has updated his BBFileScout BlackBerry application from version 1.0 to version 1.1.

New functions include the ability to resize images to a user selected resolution ranging from 1200px, 1024px, 800px, 640px and the device’s resolution. There is also an option to show favorites at startup and URLs in the BBFileScout “About” screen will now bring you to the site.

BBFileScout is offered “free” as Donationware, which means the version available for download is fully functional with no limitations but the developer is asking for donations to help upkeep the development of the application. BBFileScout is available for all BlackBerrys on OS 4.3 and higher.

sugarsync sample Free version of SugarSync available for BlackBerry!

The last time I posted about SugarSync they had just started Beta testing for their BlackBerry application. Today I found out that there is a free version of SugarSync available.

Here is some information from the SugarSync FAQ on pricing :

What are the limitations of the Free 2GB plan?

  • You can only backup & sync up to two computers – with a paid plan you can backup & sync an unlimited number of computers.
  • SugarSync will store the current version of each document, plus 2 past versions. If you’re looking to maintain and access more you’ll need to switch to a paid plan.
  • The upload time on the 2 GB free plan isn’t as speedy as with the paid (download speed is the same).
  • You can only backup & sync up to 2 GB of data.

Do I get mobile applications with the Free 2GB plan?

  • Absolutely – we want you to enjoy the best of SugarSync – this includes our unmatched level of customer features you’ll get through your mobile phone.
  • We now have mobile applications for iPhone, BlackBerry & WinMo. All other phones with a mobile web browser can use SugarSync by visiting m.sugarsync.com.

I’m an existing user – can I change to the Free 2GB plan?

  • Yes, but you may need to reduce your existing data to ensure you’re under the 2 GB limit. If you’re on a paid plan, you’ll be able to transfer over once your paid subscription has come to an end.
  • The Free 2GB plan has some feature limitations – see above for more detail.

Very useful if you want to save some space on your media card but still have access to important files.

Sign up for your free 2GB account or check out the full press release after the jump.

Free app: BBFileScout updated to v0.6.5, adds thumbnail support for images and more

bbfilescout menu Free app: BBFileScout updated to v0.6.5, adds thumbnail support for images and more

BBFileScout has been updated to version 0.6.5 with support for thumbnail images, new features and a fresh set of application icons.

From the changelog:

2009/04/22 – BBFileScout update to 0.6.5

What’s new?

  • Thumbnail support for images (if enabled in BBFileScout options)
BBFileScout is able to display a small (depending on the selected font site) preview of supported image files.
Please note that this option could eat up a lot of performance of your device, if you open a directory that contain a large number of images that have a file size which is larger the 500KiB. In order to avoid serious performance problems the search result will not display thumbnails for images.
  • BBFileScout will display a 128px preview of image files in the details dialog [Key shortcut: I] The thumbnail creation could take some moments – so please be a bit patient.
  • Select your favorite folder icons
  • When you have chosen ‘Ask each time’ in the ‘When destination exist’ option then it can become quite inconvenient when you will be prompted for plenty of files and you have to select each time the option of your choice. This have been improved: BBFileScout will now remember the first made choice and for the next time the dialog will be displayed the ‘OK’-Button is automatically focused.

2009/04/18 – BBFileScout update to 0.6.4

What’s new?

  • I am sorry that there is again another update within 24h – but the initial new icons, that I have bought where IMHO not optimal for the Blackberry® device – so I have worked the last 24h with high pressure on an update for the icons of BBFileScout and finally after spending the night with “pushing pixel around” I am more or less happy with the result
  • I hope now the contrast for the icons is improved and if there is somebody around who would like to help me with further improvements please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.

Don’t forget, BBFileScout is provided free as dontation-ware. If you’d like to help with a dontation or with the development of this application be sure to contact the developer.

Changes since version 0.5.14 (from the changelog):

2009/04/17 – BBFileScout update to 0.6.3 (0.6.2 skipped)

What’s fixed

  • I made a very stupid mistake – I trusted a information that was no reliable – and I did not spend enough time to verify this information. I deeply regret what have happened but I can not make this undone – I hope tpdkdesign.net & everaldo.com can forgive me for this error – again my apologize. As consequence all Icons (incl. the main app icon) had to be replaced (I am not confident, if the current symbols will be the final ones – but at least the I bought them from fasticon.com)
