pandora radio storm 8800 Free app: Pandora Radio for BlackBerry updated to v1.03, now supports Wi Fi

Pandora Radio for BlackBerry was recently updated to version 1.03 with the following changes:

  • Support for Wi-Fi on devices that have it (using a high quality AAC-HE stereo audio stream)
  • Bluetooth support (you can now explicitly enable it and disable it
rather than relying on the default audio routing in the device)
  • Options screen (accessible from Station List menu) to select preferences for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (on wi-fi capable devices)
  • Support for the Nextel 8350i (only over Wi-Fi)
  • Keyboard shortcuts, including pause/play functionality using the mute key (even when Pandora is running in the background)
  • Focus cursor on Now Playing screen should be easier to control on trackball devices

Unfortunately Pandora is still unavailable for Canadian BlackBerry users. :-(

Nextel to get a camera-less BlackBerry Curve 8350i

8350inoncam Nextel to get a camera less BlackBerry Curve 8350i

Nate from BlackBerryHomepage got his hands on visual confirmation that Nextel will be getting a camera-less BlackBerry Curve 8350i.

That price is looking kind of hefty for a camera-less BlackBerry, if you ask me. After the release of the BlackBerry Storm, Curve 8900 and Bold, who actually plans on getting the Curve 8350i? I guess if you’re not much of a camera person but like BlackBerrys then this is for you.

Thoughts?

How to: Fix 8350i Nextel Curve “Echo” Issue

Posted by Mauricio on Feb 20, 2009 at 10:46 AM | Comments

Jamie just sent me this article about a guide on how to fix the annoying Nextel BlackBerry Curve 8350i echo problem.

Sprint released a statement today stating that:

“A voice echo issue with the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8350i has been reported on a limited subset of devices. The root cause of the voice echo issue has been identified and is being addressed in a software release MR2 that should be available in March.”

AND

“Meanwhile if a customer is experiencing the voice echo issue we suggest using the wired headset that comes in the box or using the speakerphone until the new software is available.”

WTF?!?!?!

SERIOUSLY???

USE YOUR SPEAKERPHONE OR HEADSET THAT COMES IN THE BOX?

Being the BlackBerry Bad-ass that I am, I have put together the following “How To” on how to do RIM and Sprint’s job for them, and create a “Hybrid Operating System” using parts of the Telus 8350i Operating System to fix your echo echo echo issues.

Be sure if you do this that you follow these instructions carefully. I am not zip up this “Hybrid OS” and post it because, well…I don’t want to get SUED BY RIM for hacking their shit. So it’s up to you…Either wait until MARCH or proceed at your own risk.

NOTE: I have successfully done this and confirmed the echo is gone on 10 Nextel 8350i’s.

While I am not responsible if you do something stupid (IE: NOT follow these instructions) and jack up your device, I will keep my eye out for anyone who is having issues and assist them…

T-Mobile USA tests $50 unlimited call plan

Posted by Mauricio on Feb 19, 2009 at 4:59 PM | Comments

Some highlights from the press release:

  • T-Mobile USA, the No. 4 U.S. mobile phone service, said on Wednesday it is offering a $50 per month service plan to long-time customers in San Francisco, in the latest sign that U.S. operators may be facing a price war.
  • Under the promotion the company is also offering customers a $135 credit if they switch from a rival service to T-Mobile USA, a unit of Deutsche Telekom (DTEGn.DE).
  • A T-Mobile USA representative said the plan would only be available to customers who have used its service for 22 months or more and that as the company has “additional details regarding a national plan it would provide” them.
  • Hodulik said the plan effectively lowers T-Mobile’s price for unlimited voice, Web surfing and text messaging to $85 a month from $100 for customers who use data services.
