Nobex Radio Companion let me know that they have recently passed 1 million users and counting!

I use this app a few times a day to grab song information and recommend it to anyone who wants to listen to and stay on top of their music. For those of you who are unfamiliar with NobexRC, here are the current features:

• Listen to over 3000 radio stations around the world and see the playlist of over 2700 radio stations.
• Get Songs or Ringtones with a single click, right from your mobile device. Or, receive an email with links to buy the song on your PC, so you can always keep your music collection fresh!

Nobex let me know that their free Nobex Radio Companion BlackBerry application has gone global!

Nobex has  added over 1000 playable stations across the globe making the total amount 2000 radio stations with a playlist of over 2700 radio stations, in addition to adding  17 countries including Italy, France, Spain, Brazil,  Mexico and Argentina. All local content is free depending on where you live, but international content is premium.

You can now also request your favorite stations and see if their streams work at nobexrc.com/StationWiki.aspx.

The TuneWiki social media player for BlackBerry has been updated to v1.0.0.69.

There is no changelog and posting to Twitter and Facebook doesn’t seem to be a feature yet, but here’s a recap on what TuneWiki is all about:

Nobex let me know that they have added ESPN stations from all across the US to their free Radio Companion application for BlackBerry.

With the new ESPN stations you can listen to the National ESPN sports stream, or if local sports is your thing then you can tune in to cities like Dallas, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland and more to hear sporting events taking place in your area.

Michal from Nobex Technologies let me know that they have updated Nobex Radio Companion to version 2.1.0.184 with some cool new features!

New features include:

See Lyrics –  you can see the lyrics of the song that is playing (or recently played). If you are listening to the song through Nobex Radio Companion, you can even have the lyrics scroll synchronized with the song – turning your BlackBerry into your very own karaoke machine!

Read Song and Artist Info – Using the “Lyrics and More” screen, you can now see Artist and Song info too. You can find out how the band you love got together, and why they wrote that song you can’t get out of your head.

Nobex Radio Companion let me know that they are now supporting and streaming Canadian radio stations!

In addition to listening to over 700 radio stations across the USA  you can now listen to 150 Canadian radio stations or check out the recent playlist of over 2,700 radio stations!

Nobex Radio Companion is free and very easy to use. This is a must have application for anyone that listens to the radio and enjoys music.

Nobex Radio Companion was updated from version 2.0.0.90 to 2.1.0.130.

No changelog, but here is what I think was changed:

• Better layout
• Easier to search for stations
• Faster

I heard an awesome song last night and had to find out what it was, so I got out my BlackBerry and used Nobex Radio Companion to get the song. While I was getting the song, I noticed a “Check for Upgrades” option and decided to check. Turns out there was a new update, and an great one too. The NobexRC version I had was 0.9.0.34 (I know a bit old) and the newest version is 2.0.0.90.

After I updated I started the app to see what was new and found out that it now has streaming radio! I thought it was free, but the NobexRC website says:

Over a hundred stations are now playable on your BlackBerry Smartphone. For a limited time, radio streaming is provided free of charge. It will be part of a monthly subscription service in the future.

That sucks! Don’t get me wrong, this application is a must have for me but I wouldn’t pay for streaming radio on my BlackBerry. I guess I’ll use it until they start charging, unless it is extremely reasonably priced. Some people would pay to have it on their BlackBerry though.

When I hit play to listen a pop up…popped up saying there was no WiFi so it would use the data network. Which is okay since I have a data plan, but it’s cool that they offer the streaming through WiFi. If you have a WiFi enabled BlackBerry then you can use the streaming no problem.

There seems to be about a 30-40 second delay between the streaming and actual radio station, which would be bad if you’re trying to listen to win something but it’s still convenient otherwise.

The actual “Get Song” option is free, but the streaming will cost a monthly subscription in the future. So get it and try it now while you can. Maybe you’ll like it enough to pay for the monthly.
