Official OS 4.6.0.297 For The BlackBerry Bold 9000 Re-Released By AT&T – Updated Platform Version

Posted by Mauricio on Sep 23, 2009 at 10:43 AM | Comments

AT&T had previously taken down BlackBerry OS 4.6.0.297 for the Bold 9000 because of technical issues but it looks like it was re-released with an updated Software Platform version. The Software Platform version from the previous AT&T Bold OS was 4.0.0.243, in this re-released OS the version is 4.0.0.247. This is not the newest available OS, just in case.

NikkiSoft is having a 50% off sale on their popular QuickLaunch application for BlackBerry today only!

QuickLaunch has come a long way with its development and it only gets better with each update. In my opinion this is an application no BlackBerry user should be without, especially if you want to get the most out of your convenience keys.

QuickLaunch is a must have application for every BlackBerry owner. With an interface that is seamlessly integrated with the look of the BlackBerry OS, QuickLaunch will create shortcuts to most any application on your device with ease and style. In addition the added functions included with QuickLaunch will enable you to delete several other apps on your device saving memory making QuickLaunch the ‘Swiss Army Knife’ of your Blackberry.

QuickLaunch allows you to setup shortcuts to various functions such as Websites, Email, SMS and PIN addresses, Phone numbers, 3rd Party Apps, Videos, Images, Audio files, Device Info, Bluetooth Configuration, Camera, Video Camera, Delete your Call Logs, Manage Connections, Device Reset, Google and Wikipedia Search and other functions such as Blackberry Options, Calculator, Calendar, Event Log, Tasks, WiFi On/Off Toggle (Bold and Curve Versions) and more! Configure a convenience key to activate QuickLaunch and when pushed a menu will popup showing a scrollable list of your configured actions. blackberry 9700 14 BlackBerry Bold 9700 (Onyx) Gets Reviewed!

BGR put together an awesome review of the BlackBerry Bold 9700, initially covering its hardware in Part 1. The Bold 9700 in Part 1 is a pre-production unit but BG says he’s going to review an AT&T production unit in Part 2!

Here’s what BG goes over in this review:

  • Hardware / Design
  • Screen
  • OS
  • Keyboard
  • Phone
  • Browser
  • Speaker
  • Battery

The pictures alone are enough to make you drool  . Here’s a statement from the review showing that the Bold 9700 is definitely in BG’s good graces:

“So you’re saying the BlackBerry 9700 is the best BlackBerry ever?”

Yes. It’s the finest BlackBerry ever crafted and if you’re asking why it’s so much better than the Tour, it goes back to that CDMA vs. GSM argument as well as the fact that the 9700 is simply a year newer.

Head on over to BGR for all the details and more pictures of this rocking BlackBerry and let me know what you think in the comments below!

Official OS 4.7.1.53 For The BlackBerry Tour 9630 Being Pushed Out By Verizon (Changelog)

UPDATE Verizon and RIM have pulled OS 4.7.1.53 after releasing it for only a few hours. Apparently this OS was bad and really messed up some Tours. If you attempted to upgrade to this OS let me know if you were successful in the comments. *

BlackBerry OS 4.7.1.53 for the Tour 9630 was just leaked a few days ago but it looks like Verizon has decided to make it official and is pushing it out through BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Here is a changelog put together by BGR:

  • Improved MMS notifications
  • Improved Visual Voice Mail app
  • Improved sound quality for Bluetooth headsets and voice calls
  • Fixed geo-tagging error in the camera application
  • Fixed an error with DRM music skipping
  • Improved video player
  • Added BlackBerry Messenger update notifications — check for new BBM updates automatically or manually.
  • Fixed an issue with device restarting after activating morning alarm
  • Fixed an issue with memory cleaning and sluggishness
  • The first character is no longer duplicated when dialing from the
    home screen.
  • Your smartphone may not have detected headset removal, causing it to remain connected to a disabled headset.
  • When prompted to add an email account in the Setup Wizard, your smartphone may have jumped to “Bluetooth® Setup,” leaving you unable to navigate back to email setup.
  • If you tried to save changes to a contact that only contained a company name, you may have received the error message “Contact updated externally. Changes will be lost and the view closed.”

This update is only available through BlackBerry Desktop Manager and not through Verizon’s BlackBerry Downloads site (at least right now). To get this update load BlackBerry Desktop Manager and plug in your Tour 9630. Everything should be automatic from there.

Even though this is an official update you should always backup beforehand in case something goes wrong. Let me know how you like the update in the comments!
