Just when you thought the Twitter universe couldn’t get anymore creative JAJAH@Call pops up.

JAJAH@Call basically allows you to make free two-minute phone calls to any Twitter user who is also signed up for the service.

JAJAH gives short messages a voice. With the new JAJAH application, Twitter users can make free phone calls on their favorite microblogging service. Now in Beta, JAJAH@Call allows you to make a free two minute call (the verbal equivalent of a tweet) to other JAJAH@Call users. It’s free, it’s easy and works no matter how you use Twitter, whether it’s on your cellphone, via Seesmic, TweetDeck, or any other way.

The Beta is available to selected users. To check if you’re one of them, log in to your account. Under “My Services” in “My Account” page you will see “Twitter Calls.” If this doesn’t appear, and you would like an invitation, send an email to twitter@jajah.com

Seems like an interesting idea, but I’m wondering how many people will actually use this service? Consider that it might use your minutes unless it’s one number you can add to something like T-Mobile’s myFaves.

The advantage of being a BlackBerry user versus having to use the web would be that you can make these calls anywhere through apps like SocialScope, ÜberTwitter and TwiXtreme.

Would you use this service?

Visit the JAJAH@Call page for more info or check out the press release after the jump.

Tafasa let me know that their LaunchPad BlackBerry application has been updated to version 1.5.0.0 with the following changes:

  • Ability to create phone call launchers: Create an icon on your home  screen that will start dialing a specified number
  • Ability to create email composition launchers: Create an icon on your  home screen that will start composing an email to a specified address
  • Choose email, numbers and icon images straight from your Address Book  when creating Phone and Email launchers
  • Support for favicons when fetching website images. Previously, LaunchPad  only supported the larger format image which isn’t as widespread, but now  LaunchPad will be able to grab the smaller favicon as well. However, favicons are usually quite small and the BlackBerry requires the icon to be  a certain size, so the enlarged icon may appear distorted.
  • Have up to 40 launchers on your screen at any given time (up from 25 in  previous releases). When creating the 41st launcher, you will be asked to  delete one first. You can create an unlimited amount of launchers over the  lifetime of the application.
  • Installation now happens through the browser. Don’t worry, you don’t  need to download anything extra after the first install, but by installing in the browser, LaunchPad avoids many potential issues, be more stable, and compatible with more device/os combinations. This will hopefully resolve  any issues people have had with previous releases of LaunchPad.
  • No more need for “Refresh Launchers” menu item. Launcher titles  should never revert back to anything other than the title you have set for them.
  • General stability and performance improvements

Those who already purchased LaunchPad can update theirs for free!

LaunchPad is available for the BlackBerry Curve 8900, Bold, Storm and Tour. Until August 31st you can get LaunchPad for only $0.99, regularly $1.99.

I personally haven’t tried to record a Voice Note during a phone call, but apparently it isn’t possible. That is until Berry Record was released, currently available for the BlackBerry Storm.

Berry Record is the first BlackBerry application that allows you to record Voice Notes while you are on a phone call. Sometimes you may need to make a note of something during a conversation but may not have a pen handy. Berry Record allows you to record some Voice Notes while on the go.

Features:

  • Allows recording of voice notes while using phone application
  • Intergrates Record Note button in phone application
  • Allows recording of voice notes from the application menu
  • Option to save to the phone or media card

Here’s how it works:

  1. Open the Berry Record.
  2. Click the menu button and click on “Settings.” You have the option to save voice notes directly to your device memory or the memory card.
  3. While on a call simply click the menu button then click “Record Notes.”
  4. When finished, just click the menu button and click Stop “Recording Notes.”

Berry Record is available for $2.00 in the store and in the Mobile App Store. Unfortunately there is no free trial available so if you buy it let me (and everyone else) know what you think in the comments!
