Earlier today @AtilaUno let me know that there was a rumor of a new Facebook version for BlackBerry getting released. It looks like this rumor turned out to be true because RIM has officially announced the new version!

New features in version 1.7:

• News Feed Support (Migration to the new News Feed API)
• News Feed Filters (Status, Photos, Links, News Feed)
• Caching Improvements
• Feed Pre-fetching
• View Profile Menu Option
• Default BB Menu item selection changes

CrackBerry Kevin was able to get some screen captures of Facebook 1.6 along with full details about its features and upgrades!

The info in the first post about Facebook 1.6 is right but there weren’t any details available at the time. Now we have details about each new feature and upgrade in Facebook 1.6.

Ronen from BerryReview was sent a tip that RIM has scheduled the launch of Facebook 1.6 for this Thursday, May 28th at 5PM EST.

Facebook 1.6 will include the following features:

• Feed support – view and comment on friends status updates and highlights
• Profile and wall viewing – view and comment on friends’ profiles and wall updates
• Improved photo viewing – view and comment on pictures
• Additional language support – (vague…)

Ronen claims this launch date to be the same as the one sent out to the RIM partners so it’s possible that it will  in fact launch this Thursday. I guess we’ll find out soon enough since it’s less than a week away .
