SAP and RIM have announced the availability of the BlackBerry Sales Client for SAP CRM, which is being showcased at SAPPHIRE 2009.

Research In Motion Reports Fourth Quarter and Year-End Results for Fiscal 2009

Some highlights from the press release:

  • Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM), a world leader in the mobile communications market, today reported results for the three months and fiscal year ended February 28, 2009 (all figures in U.S. dollars and U.S. GAAP).
  • Revenue for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009 was $3.46 billion, up 24.5% from $2.78 billion in the previous quarter and up 84% from $1.88 billion in the same quarter of last year.
  • Approximately 3.9 million net new BlackBerry® subscriber accounts were added in the quarter.  At the end of the quarter, the total BlackBerry subscriber account base was approximately 25 million.
  • Net income for the quarter was $518.3 million, or $0.90 per share diluted, compared with net income of $396.3 million, or $0.69 per share diluted, in the prior quarter and net income of $412.5 million, or $0.72 per share diluted, in the same quarter last year.

RIM has officially launched the BlackBerry App World!

RIM had announced its plans to launch an Application Storefront back in October 2008, which then became known as the BlackBerry App World in the beginning of March. After a few weeks of rumors and speculation, it is finally here. RIM’s answer to the Apple App Store is now available for all BlackBerry users on OS 4.2 and higher who live in the US, UK and Canada.

Skype announces service for BlackBerry, coming in May!

Some highlights from the press release:

  • Skype, the Internet telephone unit of eBay Inc, is planning to launch its service for iPhone users on Tuesday and for BlackBerry in May as part of its effort to expand beyond desktop computers.
  • Skype has been pushing to make its service work on the most popular advanced phones with an aim to expending its more than 400 million users who were mostly lured by the promise of cheap and sometimes free calls made using its computer application.
  • In May it will launch Skype for Research In Motion’s BlackBerry devices, which popularized mobile email. It has already announced Skype for Nokia phones and for phones based on Android, Google Inc’s mobile system, and Windows Mobile, from Microsoft Corp.
  • “Whether you’re Twitter, MySpace or Facebook you want to be embedded in the address book,” said Wood. “This puts Skype firmly into the game.”

RIM has officially announced the BlackBerry App World, previously known as the “BlackBerry Application Storefront.”

The BlackBerry developers site will be updated tonight to reflect the changes and should be live by 10PM EST. RIM will also publish a page where you can sign up to receive  a notification that the BlackBerry App World is live. This link won’t work till tonight, so bookmark it for later!

According to CrackBerry Kevin, RIM plans on launching the BlackBerry App World before the end of March. We’ll just have to wait and see if RIM plans on keeping to the schedule with this one ;-) .

RIM announces BES 5.0

RIM announced today the latest version of its BlackBerry Enterprise Server, BES 5.0.

Check out what’s been announced:

  • Retrieve corporate documents behind firewalls
  • Add, read, rename and delete folders on the handset and have those changes be applied to the desktop email client
  • Create rules within the inbox to filter email and have those changes be applied to the desktop
  • View attachments in calendar entries and meeting requests
  • Download and store emails and email attachments onto microSD cards

Over-the-air updates will also be easier for both administrators and users.
