openbeak twitter blackberry TwitterBerry BlackBerry Twitter Client Is Now OpenBeak

The last time TwitterBerry was updated was back in August and it looks like Orangatame is trying to stay in the game with the re-release of their client as OpenBeak.

Even though more updated Twitter clients like SocialScope, ÜberTwitter and TweetGenius are around, believe it or not, TwitterBerry continues to hold its position as second most used BlackBerry Twitter app. I’m not sure if the ranking system is by Twitter name or some sort of client ID, so I’m wondering if the name change will affect their stats or their following.

New client description:

OpenBeak is mobile client for posting updates to Twitter. It works over the data network, so you don’t need to use SMS. OpenBeak is the evolution of TwitterBerry, and gives a name that allows the app to grow beyond both the Twitter platform and BlackBerry smartphones.

OpenBeak is available for all BlackBerry devices running OS 4.2.1 and higher. To download OpenBeak directly to your device visit m.openbeak.com from your BlackBerry Browser or visit the product page from your desktop for more info.

twitterberry8 thumb TwitterBerry Updated To v0.9.1.1 Adds @Replies Popup And Bug Fixes

Are you a loyal TwitterBerry user? Well then, you’ll be happy to know that it has been updated to version 0.9.1.1.

As I mentioned yesterday, TwitterBerry was the second most used BlackBerry Twitter application, but as of today it is the third most used after ÜberTwitter and SocialScope.

Even though it isn’t as developed as ÜberTwitter or SocialScope, TwitterBerry seems to be holding its own in the race to be the best BlackBerry Twitter app (according to the stats anyway).

New features in 0.9.1.1:

  • Added a new @replies popup. Now you do not need to leave the list screen to post a reply.

Bug Fixes in 0.9.1.1:

  • Fixed an issue when notification icons may not disappear after viewing unread messages
  • Removed Embedded Camera feature for devices that do not have OS 4.6+
  • Fixed a Null Pointer Exception when the application permissions do not permit use of the camera

You can download it now OTA by clicking here from your BlackBerry Browser, or visit the TwitterBerry product page for more info.

ÜberTwitter Currently The Most Popular BlackBerry Twitter App

ubertwitter logo ÜberTwitter Currently The Most Popular BlackBerry Twitter App

There are now a few good BlackBerry Twitter applications available for many devices, but the every day user wouldn’t really know which is more popular according to the percentage of users.

That’s why there are sites like TwitStat, which monitors Twitter client usage for all accounts follow by @twitstat.

I’ve gone ahead and pulled the top BlackBerry apps listed on the TwitStat page. Here they are by rank with links to their pages:

These stats would be accurate if it wasn’t for the fact that SocialScope is in closed beta. Since ÜberTwitter is in open beta, more people are able to download and use it. Also, like Adam from Mashable said, ÜberTwitter has gotten some celebrity exposure to help increase its user base.

So now you have to wonder…if SocialScope was open invite instead of closed invite, would it be the top BlackBerry Twitter app? I’ve been using the new SocialScope for a while now and I have to say, it is definitely the top app for me. Since I’ve played with all the apps listed above, I can’t be too biased right?

Thoughts? Which is your favorite BlackBerry Twitter app, and why?

twitterberry8 thumb TwitterBerry Updated To v0.9.1 With New Features And Fixes

Well this one kind of caught me by surprise. TwitterBerry has been updated to version 0.9.1 with some new features and fixes.

TwitterBerry 0.9.1 [July 14, 2009]

New features in 0.9.1:

  • Added support for Zannel.com uploads. Select “Zannel” from the “Media Provider” choice on the Configure screen.
  • Embedded Camera is now available for OS 4.2+ for smartphones with a camera. Try the “Take Photo” menu item from the main “What Are You Doing?” screen
  • Added a “Help” menu for online help

Bug Fixes in Beta 7:

  • Improved performance and memory use for uploading media

I’m not sure if it can go up against newer Twitter applications like SocialScope and UberTwitter, but I’m glad they’re attempting a comeback. It looks like they’ve also updated their supported BlackBerry list to include pretty much every device, including the Tour 9630!

Download it now OTA by clicking here or visit the TwitterBerry product page for more info. Let me know what you think about this update!

 TwitterBerry 0.9 Beta 1 released

Orangatame has released a beta update to their Twitter for BlackBerry application, TwitterBerry 0.9 Beta 1.

Keep in mind that this is a beta so you’re probably going to run into a few bugs here and there. One that I already noticed was that the LED blinks red even after you shut the application. At least that’s what happens on my Curve 8900.

New Features:

  • OS 4.2.1+: Includes improved TwitPic support. Look for the ‘Send to TwitterBerry’ menu in the Media application when viewing images. TwitPic uploads are sent over direct TCP connections, see ‘Connection Help’ in the Settings page
  • OS 4.2.1+: TwitPic progress bar, to show the progress of the upload
  • OS 4.3.0+: WiFi support for all connections
  • Full tweets on the list screen. No need to click to open new tweets
  • Improved network connectivity, adding support for WAP 2.0
  • Hyperlink “@username” in tweets to visit their timeline
  • Re-Tweet tweets from timelines or tweet views
  • Optional HTTPS SSL support on all authenticated requests
  • Background on close under ‘Configure’
  • Multiple bug fixes
  • New localizations: Portuguese

TwitterBerry Mobile Twitter App for BlackBerry Gets a (Beta) Makeover

Posted by Mauricio on Oct 2, 2008 at 10:20 PM | Comments

Research In Motion (RIM) BlackBerrys. Twitter. Free mobile applications. These are a few of my favorite things. What’s even better? Why, a combination of all three, of course.

That’s exactly what you get in TwitterBerry, a free mobile Twitter client for BlackBerry from Orangatame Software. TwitterBerry’s not new—in fact, we’ve reviewed, demonstrated and recommended the software on various occasions—but today, a new beta version of the app hit the Web, TwitterBerry 0.7 beta 4. The latest tweaks and modifications address a number of my long-standing complaints and add some truly valuable features.

I was appropriately notified of this new beta release via Twitter, after communicating earlier this week with Jason Schroeder, a TwitterBerry developer.
