openbeak twitter blackberry TwitterBerry BlackBerry Twitter Client Is Now OpenBeak

The last time TwitterBerry was updated was back in August and it looks like Orangatame is trying to stay in the game with the re-release of their client as OpenBeak.

Even though more updated Twitter clients like SocialScope, ÜberTwitter and TweetGenius are around, believe it or not, TwitterBerry continues to hold its position as second most used BlackBerry Twitter app. I’m not sure if the ranking system is by Twitter name or some sort of client ID, so I’m wondering if the name change will affect their stats or their following.

New client description:

OpenBeak is mobile client for posting updates to Twitter. It works over the data network, so you don’t need to use SMS. OpenBeak is the evolution of TwitterBerry, and gives a name that allows the app to grow beyond both the Twitter platform and BlackBerry smartphones.

OpenBeak is available for all BlackBerry devices running OS 4.2.1 and higher. To download OpenBeak directly to your device visit m.openbeak.com from your BlackBerry Browser or visit the product page from your desktop for more info.

RIM Working On An Official BlackBerry Twitter Client?

It seems like everyone wants to throw their hat into the Twitter application ring these days. We’ve seen SocialScope, UberTwitter, TwitterBerry and a few others, and now RIM is rumored to be working on an official BlackBerry client!

According to CrackBerry Kevin, RIM has been working on a Twitter client codenamed Project Banshee.

It’ll be a BIS-B Push based handheld client leveraging RIM’s past app experiences and making use of the new components being developed within MySpace projects. It will feature core BlackBerry application integration, and be tied in to the address book, browser and device setup wizard. You can expect the user interface to be along the same lines as other RIM-built social networking apps and offer a similar experience. As for features, it’ll have everything you’d expect a twitter app these days to have, including trending topics.

With RIM possibly releasing their own BlackBerry Twitter client, this could be a concern for current Twitter app devs that have been working hard to make sure their own apps are the best.

Knowing this, how many of you would switch from your current Twitter app to the official BlackBerry app? Let me know what you think in the comments!

ÜberTwitter seems to be  making all the right moves, it’s no surprise they’re still the most popular BlackBerry Twitter app!

When it was first released, ÜberTwitter was pretty basic although already better than TwitterBerry. Being an open beta BlackBerry app, ÜberTwitter was able to benefit from worldwide feedback and quickly became the app it is today. A few of the major updates to ÜberTwitter include multiple accounts, save Twitter searches, auto-complete usernames (very useful), TwitVid integration, free/paid options, and now TweetPhoto integration!

“We chose TweetPhoto as our default photo service because we wanted to give our users the fastest, easiest and most reliable photo service available,” said Paul McDonald, founder of ÜberTwitter. “From a user-experience standpoint, TweetPhoto offers the richest experience to our users.   And from a developer’s perspective, TweetPhoto’s API is extensive, reliable, and extremely easy to integrate.”

According to Sean Callahan, “In supporting the development process of integrating TweetPhoto into ÜberTwitter we made available several new additions to our photo sharing platform specifically for BlackBerry and other mobile developers. Most notably chunked uploads which allows users to upload larger photos from their handsets.”

ÜberTwitter Beta 5 integrates TweetPhoto’s uploading, voting, favoriting, commenting and geo-tagging features, in addition to allowing users to view all photos they uploaded, comments posted on photos and more. TweetPhoto is an awesome Twitter photo sharing service, the only one I use.

The free version is ad-supported, the premium version (available for a yearly $4.99 fee) has no ads. For more info go to ubertwitter.com or for a direct OTA download visit ubertwitter.com/bb/download.php from your BlackBerry Browser.

ubertwitter logo ÜberTwitter For BlackBerry Updated To v0.912 Free And Paid Options Available

Earlier this week I posted about ÜberTwitter possibly releasing an update where both free and paid options would be made available. @nanpalmero just tweeted that ÜberTwitter has been updated to version 0.912 with a purchasing option now being available via ubertwitter.com.

@UberTwiter’s update about the new version:

We have release a minor revision to Beta-4 which improves responsiveness and fixes a number of bugs, latest version is now 0.912

They don’t mention the new version including both free and paid options, but the options are available at their website.

For the subscription of $4.99 you get the following:

  • Unlimited upgrades for one year
  • No advertisements forever on any of the versions released during the subscription year

It also says:

At the end of one year you will not be required to upgrade nor purchase a new subscription.

This means that you can keep the premium version you paid for and use it without ads, but if you want to upgrade to a newer version (without ads) after that year you will have to pay for another $4.99 subscription.

Head on over to the ÜberTwitter purchase page if you’re interested in the ad-free version, or click here to download the free version (with ads) OTA.

TwitVid.com has launched the first Twitter video application through the BlackBerry App World!

“We believe that video will help to drive further Twitter adoption because it dramatically enriches the Twitter experience,” said Mo Adham, Co-Founder of TwitVid.com. “Now people are not just restricted to experiencing the Twitter universe from the 140 character view, they can see and more deeply communicate what’s happening in their social circle and beyond. Being first out the gate with a standalone video app for the BlackBerry and supplying video tweeting to an incredible app like UberTwitter means our users get the best Twitter experience available anywhere.”

Awesome! If you’re a big time twitter use like me then you’ll definitely have some fun with this application.

ÜberTwitter Releasing Paid And Free Version (With Ads) This Thursday?

Posted by Mauricio on Aug 18, 2009 at 11:52 AM | Comments

ubertwitter tweet ads ÜberTwitter Releasing Paid And Free Version (With Ads) This Thursday?

ÜberTwitter recently tweeted that they will be releasing a new version of their BlackBerry Twitter application this Thursday.

Last week ÜberTwitter had to turn off the ads in their app because of all the complaints from the Twitter community. The update, according to the tweet, will turn the ads back on in the free version and offer an ad-free paid version.

Still no pricing info yet, but rumor has it that it will be a subscription versus a one-time payment.

With ÜberTwitter currently being the most popular BlackBerry Twitter app, will you endure the banner ad or pay for the ad-free version?

ÜberTwitter Ads Have Been Turned Off (Temporarily)

ubertwitter logo ÜberTwitter Ads Have Been Turned Off (Temporarily)

So many of you have complained about the ads integrated into the new ÜberTwitter Beta 4, and it looks like your voices have been heard!

We have been listening and have heard you loud and clear! We will not turn advertisements on again until we can offer a a paid option with no advertisements. The paid version will be less then $5 and will likely be a year long subscription model, i.e. all upgrades for a year. If you purchase during the beta period, the year won’t start until we release version 1.0. Thank you for your patience and your feedback!

-@CodeWarden

As you can see, the removal of the ads is only temporary until the premium ad-free version is available.

You have to remember, though, that @CodeWarden has put a lot of work into making this BlackBerry Twitter application available for the masses. Is it fair for us to complain about an ad version that is free, especially when it is the most popular BlackBerry Twitter app? What do you think about paying $5 a year for the premium ad-free version?

ubertwitter logo ÜberTwitter Beta 4 For BlackBerry Released!

The moment many of you have been waiting for is here…ÜberTwitter has been updated to v0.909 (Beta 4)!

This release deepens support for Twitter features and takes further advantage of the capablities available in your BlackBerry device and includes two important integrations with third party services; TwitVid for sending your Über videos embedded in tweets, and Bit.ly for shortening the links you might include in your tweets.

Here are some features planned for the next version:

    • Notification icons on the homescreen! We have heard you loud and clear, we will be adding this.
    • Integration of a high functionality third-party photo service – We are VERY excited about this as we believe that it will bring an extremely rich photo sharing experience to our users.
    • Integration into the BlackBerry browser such that URLs can be included directly in a tweet from the browser menu.
    • Saved searches – integrate the new Twitter saved search API. Searches saved via the Twitter web site will be useable on ÜberTwitter and vice versa
    • Twitter name menu – Type ‘@’ and a list of your friends automatically pops up allowing selection

TwitterBerry Updated To v0.9.1.1 – Adds @Replies Popup And Bug Fixes

Posted by Mauricio on Aug 6, 2009 at 11:15 PM | Comments

twitterberry8 thumb TwitterBerry Updated To v0.9.1.1 Adds @Replies Popup And Bug Fixes

Are you a loyal TwitterBerry user? Well then, you’ll be happy to know that it has been updated to version 0.9.1.1.

As I mentioned yesterday, TwitterBerry was the second most used BlackBerry Twitter application, but as of today it is the third most used after ÜberTwitter and SocialScope.

Even though it isn’t as developed as ÜberTwitter or SocialScope, TwitterBerry seems to be holding its own in the race to be the best BlackBerry Twitter app (according to the stats anyway).

      New features in 0.9.1.1:

      • Added a new @replies popup. Now you do not need to leave the list screen to post a reply.

      Bug Fixes in 0.9.1.1:

      • Fixed an issue when notification icons may not disappear after viewing unread messages
      • Removed Embedded Camera feature for devices that do not have OS 4.6+
      • Fixed a Null Pointer Exception when the application permissions do not permit use of the camera

You can download it now OTA by clicking here from your BlackBerry Browser, or visit the TwitterBerry product page for more info.

Feel free to let me know what you think about this update in the comments!
