ÜberTwitter Currently The Most Popular BlackBerry Twitter App

ubertwitter logo ÜberTwitter Currently The Most Popular BlackBerry Twitter App

There are now a few good BlackBerry Twitter applications available for many devices, but the every day user wouldn’t really know which is more popular according to the percentage of users.

That’s why there are sites like TwitStat, which monitors Twitter client usage for all accounts follow by @twitstat.

I’ve gone ahead and pulled the top BlackBerry apps listed on the TwitStat page. Here they are by rank with links to their pages:

These stats would be accurate if it wasn’t for the fact that SocialScope is in closed beta. Since ÜberTwitter is in open beta, more people are able to download and use it. Also, like Adam from Mashable said, ÜberTwitter has gotten some celebrity exposure to help increase its user base.

So now you have to wonder…if SocialScope was open invite instead of closed invite, would it be the top BlackBerry Twitter app? I’ve been using the new SocialScope for a while now and I have to say, it is definitely the top app for me. Since I’ve played with all the apps listed above, I can’t be too biased right?

Thoughts? Which is your favorite BlackBerry Twitter app, and why?

vlingo Vlingo Out of Beta Get Version 1.1 For Your BlackBerry

Saw that there was an update when I ran Vlingo today. Here is what it said:

This is a general release of Vlingo 1.1 and includes all the features and bug fixes of the 1.1 beta builds. To qualify for technical support, you will need to upgrade to this version.

Here is a bit more detail from an email received by CrackBerry Kevin:

Starting today, vlingo 1.1 is out of beta and available to the general public. For those who have not yet heard, by just pressing the side convenience key, vlingo lets you speak into your mobile device to send emails and text messages, search the Web, open applications (BlackBerry Calendar, BlackBerry Maps, contacts etc.), dial your phone and send notes to yourself all from the phones idle screen. To upgrade to vlingo 1.1 or download for the first time, click here.

Vlingo 1.1 adds the ability to forward & reply to emails and text messages, as well as better connection handling. Vlingo 1.1 also addresses a few bug fixes. Full details of vlingo 1.1 can be found at http://www.vlingo.com.

Vlingo 1.1 Now Open Beta: Reply, Forward, Better Connections

vlingo1 Vlingo 1.1 Now Open Beta: Reply, Forward, Better Connections

The Vlingo private beta for 1.1 is now open to everyone as a public beta! The biggest advancements in Vlingo 1.1 are the ability to forward & reply to emails and text messages, and better connection handling.

Go to http://www.vlingo.com/vlingo/go?r=10 to get it now from your BlackBerry Browser.

New Features:

Reply to and forward messages using voice.

  • You can now “reply with vlingo,” “reply all with vlingo” and “forward with vlingo” (simply access these options by hitting the menu button when viewing a message – these are currently not spoken commands).

Punctuation and automatic capitalization.

  • Recently vlingo added automatic capitalization of proper nouns and the first letter after punctuation. Try speaking “period,” “exclamation point,” or “question mark, followed by another sentence.

Vlingo 1.1 Key Bug Fixes and Network Connection Improvements:

  • This version should fix the problem where vlingo was unable to run because it thought it needed WiFi permissions on a non-WiFi device
  • If you have a WiFi device: Vlingo 1.1 no longer requires you to turn off WiFi when you are not connected via the WiFi network.
  • Vlingo 1.1 offers a more robust set of connection options. If you previously were unable to connect to vlingo or received frequent timeout errors, this update offers users additional options for establishing a successful connection. Please see below for additional options should connection problems still occur.
  • Improved permissions management.

I’m already using the 1.1 beta. Is this a new version?

Yes. If you are already using the 1.1 beta, you’ll soon see an upgrade notice that will ask you to upgrade to this version. You don’t need to click the link above, though you may do so if you’d like.

How do I provide feedback?

Once you download the beta and try it out, vlingo wants your feedback. You can do this in one of two ways:

  • Use the “Send Feedback” link in the vlingo software. You can access it on the vlingo home screen, or from the menu available from any vlingo screen.
  • If for some reason you can’t use the Send Feedback link, email your comments to vlingosupport@vlingo.com.

Remember – specificity helps. Vlingo is looking for feedback so they can get ready for the general 1.1 release.

New Connections Options:

Vlingo 1.1 offers some additional connection options. If you are receiving request timeout or connection failure messages, try changing the vlingo “Connection Type” setting. The different options are:

  • Auto. With this setting, vlingo will try to determine the best connection itself. Try this first and leave it here if it works. If you have errors or extremely long response times, then try the settings below.
  • Direct TCP. Typically this provides the fastest connection. If you have a GSM phone, make sure that your APN is set correctly. For instructions, see the FAQ “Request Timeout” question at http://www.vlingo.com/faq.html.
  • BIS. This tends to be slightly slower, but if Direct TCP doesn’t work then this typically will.
  • MDS. This option is available for people whose phones are on a corporate BES server. If other connections are slow or unavailable, try this to see if it works better.
