YouTuber scott4551 uploaded a video of the BlackBerry Storm 2 doing some web browsing while connected to WiFi. Here is what scott4551 goes over in the video:

  • When the WiFi is connected the pages load very fast
  • May take a second or two to gain the address
  • Animated weather screen, pretty smooth
  • Tries to automatically view mobile versions of web pages
  • Some websites take longer to request the page but once found it loads quickly (hardware or WiFi issue?)
  • Loads images quickly
  • Scrolling is smooth and easy
  • Speed depends on the complexity of the page
  • Compared to 3G, WiFi browsing seems faster
  • Rotating (screen orientation) is very smooth

Check out the Storm 2 Archives to learn more about this device. If the mid-October launch date rumor holds, who plans on getting the Storm 2?

easytether mac edition EasyTether (Mac Edition) For BlackBerry $4.95 Until August 16th!

It looks like Mobile Stream beat TetherBerry in the race to release a BlackBerry tethering solution for Apple Mac computers!

Mobile Stream just released EasyTether (Mac Edition), an application that will allow you to connect to the Internet by tethering your BlackBerry with your Mac. One thing that made EasyTether stand out was that it can tether to your Mac wirelessly via Bluetooth!

Features:

  • Simple setup without any custom desktop software
  • Works with any data plan
  • 3G grade speeds with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR devices
  • Free lifetime upgrades

I don’t have a Mac so I can’t tell you how this will work, and unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a free trial available, but until Auguest 16th you can get it for $4.95 (originally $9.95).

This application will work on any BlackBerry running OS 4.5 and higher.

Check out EasyTether (Mac Edition) in the store or in the on-device Mobile App Store.

Note: Considering the price difference between EasyTether and TetherBerry, I’d really appreciate some feedback comments about the app if you’ve used the TetherBerry Mac Beta, and how well it works in comparison.

Whenever I am home I am always connected via Wi-Fi to my wireless router, but when I leave I usually forget to shut it off. A new application was just released called WiFi Disabler, an application that automatically disables Wi-Fi when you are out of range.

If you don’t turn off your BlackBerry’s Wi-Fi connection it will continue to seek out Wi-Fi networks in your area, resulting in some battery drainage. WiFi Disabler is a convenient application that allows you to not have to worry about turning your Wi-Fi on and off.

Features:

  • Setup a delay timer so that the WiFi radio has a chance to reconnect
  • Enable/Disable visible notification of WiFi been turned off
  • Conserves Battery Life

Wi-Fi Disabler is available for any Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry on OS 4.5 and higher.

You can grab a copy of WiFi Disabler for $1.49 in the store until July 15th, after that it goes up to $3.95. You can also find this application in the BB Rocks! Mobile App Store.
