Spotify launched a preview beta of their app a few months ago but today officially released it for BlackBerry smartphones. The premium Spotify subscription (required to use the app) offers unlimited music without ads, offline mode for playlists, take your music abroad, enhanced sound quality and more. From their blog post:

We are excited to let you know that our BlackBerry app is no longer a Preview release and is now available to any user with a compatible phone. To download the app simply point the browser on your phone to m.spotify.com and follow the installation instructions.

Compatible phones include Bold 9780, Bold 9700, Curve 9300, Bold 9000, Curve 8520. Currently the app only supports phones running on GSM networks. CDMA-network phones and the Torch 9800 are not compatible.

As with all of our mobile app you’ll need a Spotify Premium subscription to stream from our catalogue. You can take advantage of our 48-hour free trial directly from the mobile app or sign up to our 30-day free trial to give it a spin.

Wikitude today announced they’ve added support for BlackBerry 6 smartphones in their World Browser app. Originally only available for BlackBerry 7 smartphones, the OS 6 version allows users to connect with friends on BBM to locate them and other things on a map based on their location. Here’s a bit from their announcement:

Although smartphones running BlackBerry OS 6 do not support the Augmented Reality view, which requires specific hardware features available in BlackBerry 7 based smartphones, the Wikitude app does fully integrate with BBM™ enabling users to find their BBM friends on a map and to communicate with one another based on their location. Users opting to allow their whereabouts to be displayed can even make new friends.

• Browse more than 150 million places and interactive content

Spotify today launched their first preview release of their application for BlackBerry smartphones. According to them, this app “comes packed with great features to keep you listening to your favourite music wherever you are”. While the app is available as a free download, it requires a premium subscription to stream songs from their catalogue. Features in this release include:

• Million of songs available instantly on your BlackBerry.
• Offline playlists – listen to music with no mobile connection and avoid using your data allowance
• Create and sync playlists
• Star your favourite tracks
• Search tracks, artists, album
• Browse “What’s new” and “Top tracks”
• Scrobble tracks to Last.fm
• Receive music from friends via the inbox
